The object of this present invention is, broadly stated, to provide certain improvements in the construction of variousarticles of furniture such, for instance, as chiiforobes,

6 wardrobes, chifl'oniers, cupboards, book-cases,

and thelike, wherebythe same may be manufactured at a minimum of cost and with a maximum of efliciency and durability,'the same being strong and durable in construction, artisticin appearance, and which can be manufacturedand sold at a comparatively low price. i Other minor and subsidiary objects, and the details 'and'improvements which areincorporated therein, are fully, set forth in the following description, and the construction thereof is fully shown in the accompanying drawing, in which" Figure 1 is a perspective view of a complete chifi'orobe which is constructed in accordance with my invention. The base; of the combined parts consists of the front rail 1, from the ends of which the square sills 2 and 3 extend rearward. Connectingthe-rear ends of the sills 2 and 3-is the rear sill 4,-thereby completing the base frame. Numeral 5 denotes the bottom which is formed of a singlepiece of comparatively thin material such, for instance, as laminated wood stock, the same being secured tothe under sides, or'edges, ofsaid members 1', 2, 3 and 4. a I e ,Extending upward from the rear face of the sill 4 is the back 6, which is formed of the same material as the bottom 5, audit forms a back for bothxtheiwardrobe and the chiffonier member. I The vertical front or face frame comprises the said lower rail .1, the'relative long. corner stile 7, the central stile 8, the short corner stile 9, the top rail 10, and thetop rail v 11. Also the stiles 8 and 9 are connected by a plurality of horizontal mullions 12, to provide drawer-spaces in which are slidably mounted the drawers 13. A'door 14 is hinged to the stile 7 and it isadapted to close the space between the stiles 7 and 8 and the members 1 and 10; Extending upward from the sill 4 and in contact with the back 6, is a post 41. Connecting the lower ends of the posts 32 and 41 is a sill 42. Numeral-19 denotes the left-hand side of the wardrobe member, with its upper portion exposed above the top 16 of the chifionier member. Said member 19 is secured at its lower end to the sill 42, its sides are secured to the posts 41 and 32, and its upper end is secured to the member 33.

The wardrobe section is .provided with a top 15," and the chiffonier section is provided with a top 16. Numeral 17 denotes the right hand side of the wardrobe, while the lefthand side of the chifi'onie'r member is denoted by the numeral 18. Numeral 20 denotes a mirror, which extends upward from the rear part of the top 16. i

The two rear corner constructions, at the base, are identical with each other, one of which I- will now describe, and the same parts of. the other will be denoted by like numerals: Located in the angle formed by the juncture of the members 2and 4, a triangular block 21 is located, as indicated in Fig. 13, the same is secured to the bottom and to the members 2 and 4: and it extends up. level therewith. An aperture 22 is formed through said block 21 to receive the bolt 23. Resting on the block 21and extending inward even therewith and also resting on the members 2- and 4 extending out into contact with the members 6 and I7, is the triangular plate 24-through which also "thebolt-23'extends, with the head of said bolt in co'ntacttherewith. Threaded onto the extending lower portion of the bolt 23 is a leg 25, the upper end of which contacts with the bottom 5. By means of the above described constructionl provide a very rigid corner, and also make the legsremovable, if desired. 5 :The front corner b'ase construction is sime filer to the rear,'and they; each, right and left, comprise a triangular block 26,-which is secured to the bottom 5 and to the members 2 hull, and extend upward flush with the member 2, and a bolt aperture 27 isformed therethrough. Resting on the block 26 and extending inward even therewith, and also restin on the member 2, and extending "slight ylinto the member 7 and extending out to the member 17', is the triangular plate 28. A bolt 29 is inserted through the plate 28, the aperture 27 of the block 26, and the bottom 5. Threaded onto the projecting lower portion of the bolt 29 is the front leg '30. Said construction being the same as to each'ofthe two front corners.

@Se'cured in the angle of the rear corner iormed by the back 6 and the side 17, on the right, andbythe back 6 and the side 18 on the left, is a post 31, which extends from the top downwardto the respectiveplates 24. In the angle formed by the stile 8 and the side .19 is a post 32, which extends down to the I sill 42.

Secured in the angle formed by the top 15 and the side 19 and extending from'the post 32 to the rear center post 41, is a supporting member 33,'shown in Fig. 9.

Covering the joint formed by the uncture of the members and is an angular molding 34, or said molding may be integral with the member 10 if so desired. Also an angular molding 38 is secured over the juncture of the members 15 and 19.

Covering the joint formed by the juncture of the members 7 and 17 is a bead-molding 35. However, in this instance, a channel is formed in the outer edge of the member 7 in which channel the edge of the member 17 is located, as shown in Fig. 6, whereby the joint is formed at the side in would otherwise be.

A bead-molding 36 is attached along the rear edge of the side 18; and likewise a beadmolding 39 is secured along the rear edge of the member '17. A bead-molding 37 is at tached over the juncture of the members 8 and 19, as is shown in Fig. 8.

. A flat base-molding, 40 is secured on the lower edge portion of the members 1, 17 and 18, as shown in Figs. 1, 10 and 11.

I- desire that it be understood that various changes may be made in the various. parts herein shown without departing from the spirit of my invention and without sacrificing any of the advantages thereof which are new and useful.

It is to be understood that I do not claim the particular arrangement of the article of furniture shown in Fig. 1, as my invention resides in the several details of construction herein shown, whereby various articles of furniture may be constructed, in which any one, or more, or all of said details, or their equivalents, may be incorporated.

I have herein shown hanger bolts, that is place of in front as a headed bolt, sometimescalled lag-screws,

but it is; to be understood that I am not to be limited thereto,- as double-screws, or double-threaded bolts may be employed if preferred, 'in connection with my invention.

Having now fully shown and described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s r I 1. In furniture construction, a base frame composed of sills joined together at their ends, a bottom attached to all of said sills and covering'the space 'therebetween, a triangular plate located in a corner of and resting on two adjacent sills'of said frame, a post located in the corner with its lower end resting on said plate, a leg whose upper end contacts with said bottom, and a lag' screw passing through said plate and bottom and into the leg, thereby rigidly clamping said plate, bottom and leg together.

2. In furniture. construction, a base frame composed of sills joined together at their ends, a bottom attachedto said sills, a triangular plate located in each corner, each plate resting on two adjacent sills of said frame, a post located in each corner, each post resting on one of said plates, a leg extending downwardly from each corner of said frame and each with its upper end contacting with said bottom, a lag screw for each corner, each of said lag screws passing downwardly through its respective cleat and through the bottom, and into the upper end portion of its respective leg, a side member extending upwardly from the base-frame with its vertical edge located in a rabbet formed in its adjoining post whereby the outer faceof said side-member will be flush with the face of its adjoining post, and means for covering the joint formed by the juncture of saidpost and said side member.

In furniture construction, a base frame composed of sills joined together at their ends, a bottom attached to all of said sills, a plate located in a corner of and resting on two adjoining sills of the frame, a post located in the corner with its lower end terminating at said plate, a leg whose upper end 85 contacts with said bottom, a lag screw passing through said plate, and bottom, and into said leg, a vertical frame-member secured to said post, and a second vertical frame-member secured to said post at approximately right-angles to said first mentioned vertical frame-member. g

4. A furniture construction comprising a base frame, a bottom attached to the underside of said frame, a top corner-plate attached over the juncture of two members of said frame, a corner block located between the bottom and the top plate and contacting with said two members of the frame, a leg whose upper end contacts with said bottom, 40 and a screw clamping all of said parts together and securing the leg in operative position, substantially as set forth.

5. In an article of furniture, a base framev composed of sills adjoining each other at 4 their ends. a bottom attached to said sills, a plate resting on two adjoining sills of said frame. a corner post having the lower end thereof terminating at said plate, a leg whose upper end contacts with said bottom, a screw connecting said leg to the bottom, a framemember secured to said post, and a second frame-member also secured to said post and located at approximately right-angles to the first mentioned frame-member.
