Description
W. BECK.
PRESSED GLASS DOOR BLOCKS.
Patented Feb. 13, 1877.
WASHINGTON BECK, 0F PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.,
IMPROVEMENT IN PRESSED-GLASS DOOR-BLOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,246, dated February 13, 1877; application filed July 14, 1876.
To all. whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WASHINGTON BECK, of Pittsburg, county of Allegheny, State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered a new and useful Improvement in Pressed -Glass Door-Blocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, concise, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making apart of this specification, which represents my improvement in side perspective.
My invention relates to a glass door-block for holding doors open, or partly open, as against drafts or currents of air, which consists of a base or pedestal, a, surmounted by one or more platforms, 1), the latter carrying an ornamented figure, c.
This entire block is made of pressed glass in one piece and at a single operation by the use of a suitably-shaped mold and plunger, the block being pressed in an inverted position, so that the plunger, entering the mold through the cavity of the base or pedestal, shall give a hollow product. In this way I make it of the desired size without undue increase of weight or waste of material.
To prevent the block from being stolen, removed, or getting out of place, I provide for securing it at or near the place where it is to be used by means of a chain, (11, one end of which is to be fastened to the wall or floor of the house, and the other end, passing through a hole, e, made in the base or pedestal, is secured inside the hollow cavity of the block by a T, or in other suitable way. Ihis hole 0 may be made by the use of a sliding mandrel work ing through the side wall of the mold cavity, as described in thespeciiication accompanying a separate application for a patent, or in other suitable way.
A doorblock made of pressed glass in a single piece, of suitable size and weight for the purposes in View, and sufficiently ornamented to become an article of general use, I believe to be entirely new; hence,
What I claim as my invention is- A pressed-glass door-block consisting of pedestal a, platform I), one or more, and fig ure 0, substantially as set forth, as a new article of manufacture.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
WASHINGTON BECK.
