RADIOCONTROL Filed May 31, 1929 v 17 206722604" Zdiflms: alum/u; a, woods I @QQM WM M. MP%6.
Patented Aug. 16, 1932 UNITED STATES PAT ENT OFFICE ALVONI A. W'CODS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO ALL-AMERICAN MOHAWK COR- PORATION, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORYORATION OF ILLINOIS RADIOCONTROL Application filed May 31, 1929. Serial No. 387,228.
' This invention relates to control devices for radio recelving sets, and has for its'prlncipal object to provide a single control knob which may be selectively used for several purposes, as for instance, for tuning, volume and current control.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a control knob which is arranged to operate certain of the control devices, as for instance, the volume and current controls, by rotation of said knob, but which may also, by swing-,
ing the knob laterally, serve to control other devices, as for instance, the tuning condensers or similar tuning devices. In this manner, both the volume and current can be controlled in any position of the tuning adjustment.
The invention may, best be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view of a device constructed in accordance with my invention, as applied to a panel and sub-panel of a radio receiving set.
Figure 2 is a in Figure 1 Referring to details of the mechanism illustrated in the drawing, my invention is shown as appliedto a radio rece'ivin set of any plan view of the device shown suitable construction, which, or instance,
may have a front panel 10 and a base 11 connected therewith. The-single control device comprises a rotatable \knob 12 projecting through a slot 13 herein extending horizontally in front of the panel 10 in a position to be manipulated by hand.
In the embodiment ofmy invention herein illustrated, the knob 12 is mounted on a shaft 14 journalled in upright supports 17, 17 carried ona bracket 18. This bracketis mounted on the base 11 to swing in a horizontal 2 cable drum of the condenser shaft, or the like,
(not shown) so as to rotate the tuning element by a horizontally swinging movement of the entire bracket 18 and parts carried thereby.
extends through the resistance element 24 and is provided at its end with a crank arm 27 which carries a dog 28. This dog is arranged to cooperate with a tumbler element 30 of tumbler switch 31 of standard construction, suitably mounted on the bracket 18 as shown. Said tumbler switch is preferably adapted to control the main operating circuits of the receiving set, although it may be used to control otherelements as, for instance, loud speaker connections, or the like. 70
From the above description it will now be understood that the single control knob 12. may be rotated to control the volume or to turn the main circuit connections on or oil as desired. At the same time the set may be 73 tuned by swinging the control knob horizontally. The volume and circuit controls may be operated at any point of tuning adjustment, so that the latter need not be disturbed when controllingth-e volume at any given a) station, orfor leaving the set tuned to said station when it is turned 05. v 1 Although I have shown and described oneembodiment of my invention, it will .be understood that Ldo not wish tobe limited to 85 the exact construction shown and described, but that various'changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim: 1.. In a radiomeceiver, a base, a supporting. member pivotally mounted on said base, control means mounted on said supporting member, an actuating knob for said control means rotatable on an axis extending transversely of the pivotal axis of saidsupporting member, and other control means operatively connected with said supporting member and actuated by pivotalswinging movement of 10 said member eflected through manual control of said knob.
2. In a radio receiver, a base, a supporting member pivotally mounted on said base, electric control means mounted on said supporting member, an actuating knob for said con trol means rotatable on an axis extending transversely of the pivotal axis of said supporting member, and tuning control means operatively connected with said supporting member and actuated by pivotal swinging movement of said member effected through manual control of said knob.
3. In a radio receiver, a panel having a slot therein, a supporting member pivotally mounted on an axis disposed to the rear of said panel and extending transversely of said slot, a rotatable coaxial member carried on said supporting member and extending through said slot in position to be manually adjusted either by axial rotation or shifting movement in said slot, and two control devices, one aetuated by rotation of said control member and the other actuated by pivotal swinging movement of said supporting member.
Signed at Chicago, Ill. this 27 day of May,
ALVONI A. WOODS.
