Description

A. WILSON.
BAKERS" ovEN. 10.187,209.. Patented Feb.e,1a77.
N.PETERS, PHQIU-LTHOGRAPHER. WASHMGTON. D. c
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoEo ALEXANDER WILSON, OF GALESBURG, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF d HIS RIGHT TO ADAM O. AHLENIUS, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAKERS OVENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 187,209, dated February 6, 1877,- application led November 9, 1876.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER WILSON, of Galesburg, in the county of Knox and State ot' Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bakers Ovens; and I do hereby declare that the following is a t'ull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
The nature of my invention relates to improvements in bakers7 ovens; and the invention consists in the use of a sliding cover, which is operated from the outside ofthe oven, and so as to cover the openings for admitting light to the interior of the oven, when they would be liable to be smoked or steamed, and to uncover said openings, when desired, for the admission of light, as hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of an oven, partly broken away to show my invention, which it embodies.
Referring to the parts by letters, letter A represents the walls, B the crown, O the bottom, and D the door, of a bakers oven, which may be ot' any ordinary construction. E is an opening in one side, or at any other suitable plaee'in the oven, and is provided with double lights of glass or mica, e c', in the usual manner. F is a cover for the side of the opening E, next the interior of the oven, and is seated in Ways ff, in which it may be slid back and forth, a stop, g, limiting its motion when it is slid forward to cover the opening E, and also limiting its motion when it is drawn back to uncover the same. G is a rod or handle, at-
tached at one end to the slide F, and its other end extending outward through the shell or casing of the oven, to within convenient reach of an operator.
The advantagesof openings for the admission of light to ovens are rendered useless by reason of the smoke ofthe tire in heating, and the steam in baking, obscuring the transparencies placed in the opening. These difficulties are removed by the use of the slide F, herein described, which may be slid in to cover the opening E and pr'otect the transparency e while the oven is being heated, and while the bread is giving off much steam, and may be slid back to uncover said opening and admit light'when placing the bread Within or removing it from the oven, and for other purposes.
I am aware that slides have been used on the inside walls of bakers7 ovens, operated from the interior through the open door. I do not claim such as my invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
rIhe protecting-slide F, having stop g and handle Gr, the latter extending to the outside of the oven, operatingin combination with xed frame, with lights or transparent media u c c', and the walls A of a bakers oven, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER WILSON. Witnesses:
THos.McKEE, W. B. RICHARDS.
