Patented Aug. 16, 1932 UNITED STATES Application filed November 1,: lleso rseii no; 492,789. J
This invention relates to toy vehicles and 'more particularly to the wheeled type having the body shaped in animation of an animal or fowl familiar to children.
An additional object of the invention consists of a pedal operated steering wheel for the toy.
An additional object of the invention contemplates the provision and arrangement of an operating mechanism for opening and closing the mouth of the figure comprising the body.
An additional object of the invention embodies an annunciator located for simultaneous operation with the opening and closing of the figures mouth through operation of the operating mechanism whereby the figure will appear to expel natural or life like sounds peculiar to the animal'or fowl imitated.
With the above and otherobjects in view, the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing: v
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates generally the body of the figure toy which as shown is a representation of a goose or similar variety of fowl, preferably of hollow construction. A steering shaft 11 projecting through the body of the housing adjacent the base or juncture of association of th-egoose neck with the body has suitably arranged thereon a stop collar 12 abutting the upper and outer surface of the body to restrict downward motion of the steering shaft beyond a predetermined point.
A wear plate 13 of angular formation is disposed in the manner suggested in Figure 1 of the drawing whereby a flat surface is exposed to the yoke end 14 of a fork member 15. The wear plate 18 and yoke portion 14 are apertured to facilitate protruding of the steering shaft 11 therethrough whereby h bwi fm l We aeay lw h shaft may "be accommodated within a done;

An axle "shaft "21 hav 'Whee s2 i'our a da t terfi thereof V is connected with the rear portion ofthe body through the arrangement of arins 27-1. A sadd efor" S a 23 r ng a t 12.4 protruding through a "bushin g 25 upstanding from the backor upper surface of the figure, projects at its extremeend through the bottom or other fas'tening26; T I dlebe .2 or. h l em d upo uppermost" projecting end of the steering shaftjl-T'carries grips or other hand engag'-' l e 'pp' tien 2 1 1201 e r m i he eof located within convenient reach of the oper 9 seat d up t e23 1A h n n' h d awing and as i mated. m. thegfore n d scr ptin h e yf allofthe figure to accommodatea nut hat??? i ji im a on f a e se or fowltf similar variet'y having is pivotally'mounted for rocking motion, as at 30, within the confines of the hollow body, through the provision and arrangement of an elongated beaker bill. ,The lowermost section 29 of the'bill apertured ears 31 accommodating a shaft,
rivets or the like.
The innermost projecting end of the lower bill or beak section is provided with an olfset projection 32 telescopically associated with a compression spring 38 having its opposlte end sprung against the adjacent wall of the body whereby the two beak or bill sections of the head will be normally disposed in closed position.
A fulcrum lever 34, mounted within the neck of the figure, has one end disposed for overlapping sliding engagementwith that side of the lowermost movable bill or beak section 29 opposed to that of the spring33. An annunciator 35 of the bulb compressed type and designed to expel a sound similar to that of the honking, hissing or quacking of the particular fowl imitated, is located in the path of movement of the other end of the fulcrum lever '34. An operating shaft 36, having rigid connection with the fulcrum lever 34 at an ecccentric point in the'length thereof, projects outwardly through an opening in the neck of the body, forwardly and in advance of the steering shaft, and which terminates to provide a ball head or hand g ng portion 37. Shifting of the shaft 36 in a downward and forward di'rection'wifl cause the fulcrum lever 34 to rock upon the pivot or pivots therefor and cause the mouth A 3 and beak of the figurectoy to, open simul-v tor in operation whereby the figure toywil'l taneously with the setting of the annunciawellas figuratively v; V
' 's susceptible of various appear -.more life like, that is, audibly-.as
The invention changes initsform, proportions and minor detailsof construction and the rightis'herein' i I reserved to make such changes as i'p-roperly fall within the-scope of the appended claim. Having described the inventionfwhat claimed is: a a o v a A 'fig'ure wheeled toy" comprising a body 7 having a throat portion, I supporting wheels for the body, means for steering and propelling the body, a lower jawimember pivoted in the throat, a'spring located ini'the thr-oat and bearing against said member and serv. ing to normally hold the same at a closed position, a lever fulcrumed in'the throat and having one end "bearingfagainst the, inner end of said jaw member whereby the lever. is subjected to the influence ofsaid spring,
an annunciator locatedfin, the/throat and 7 having a bulb engagedfb s idievr, rod passing through the wall ofthe, throat and connected with the lever, th elsound emitting end of the annunciatorbeing disposed away from thel ever and the lower member. In testimony whereof I afixamy signa ture. l a
