designed as a container and display package for the ofiering for sale of leaders for fishing tackle, being intended for the display of gut leaders in a new and useful manner. The object of the invention is to provide a form of package for these articles by which the leaders can be neatly and securely held in an envelope or container so that they can be examined critically without necessarily removing the leaders from the package. The leaders may also be removed and replaced if desirable without destroying the package.

It is apparent that while the original purpose and intentof the invention was to improve the merchandising of the particular objects referred to, the invention may be extended and applied to other articles, and it will also be apparent that changes and modifications may be made in the design and shape of the package without departing from the essentials of the invention or losing any of the protection afforded to such invention.

The preferred or best known form of the invention is illustrated and will be described herein, the drawing showing the following views thereof:

Figure 1 is a front view of the improved special package or container;

Figure 2 is a rear view thereof; and Figure 3 is a plan view of the container or envelope opened and spread apart to illuse trate the construction thereof.

One of the disadvantages in prior packages or holders for coiled leaders has been the fact that the leader is not readily examinable without destroying the holder or container therefor. It is desirable from the standpoint of the purchaser of goods of this mine its quality. It may also be desirable to remove the leaderffrom, its original package. On theother hand, the shop-keeper does not want to haveithe original packagesfidestroyed, for the purpose of a casual examination which may not result in a sale of the goods. The special package provides a-means for marketing and displaying the goods in such manner that the prospective customer may readily satisfy himself asto the character and quality of the goods without rendering them unfit for a later sale.

The goods which have been illustrated are the usual coiled gut leaders such as used for fishing tackle, one of these leaders in circular coiled form being illustrate-d at 1. The package or container is made of paper, cardboard or other suitable material and is provided with a main front panel portion 2 with a plurality of wings or extensions 3, herein shown as four in number, which hold the coil of leader, leaving portions thereof exposed at the recesses 5 between the wings. The customer may examine and feel the exposed portion of the leader and may turn the leader within the package so that every portion thereof may be'examined. The interior of the envelope is unobstructed so that the coil of leader may be pulled out of the package through one of the openings for a closer examination and be reinserted through the same opening without breaking the seal.

The package is made from a piece of stock similar in .shape to that shown in Figure 3,

in which the front panel is centrally located as shown. The rear panel in'which the seam 6 is located is made of the two

half sections

7 and 7 being folded over on the lines 8 and having extended portions adapted to overlap to provide seams. Upper and

9 and 9 extend from the central panel and are folded over on the line 10 and adhesively secured'against the rear panel. The cut out edge portions 12 form the openings or recesses 5 when the package is assembled.

It will be seen that a simple and inexpensive 1 and yet highly practical and novel package has been provided, which accomplishes the purposes and objects set forth. The design and shape of the package is not important and may be varied. The proportions may be changed and the new package used for the display and sale of other articles of a similar naturewhere the requirements are analogous. What is claimed is: v V An envelope-for packaging articles such as coiled leaders for fishing tackle, said envelope comprising a unitary blank of sheet ma-. terial having a front panel formed with recesses for exposing the contents of th'e'T' envelope, saidfront panel having two sections of a rear panel extending therefrom adapted I 7 to be folded flatly respecting said front panel,

said sections being recessed and otherwise shaped to coincide with the first-named face panel when folded but having extended portionsadapted to overlap when folded and to be secured together in folded relation by said overlapped extended portions and wings on said first-named face panel adapted to be folded into association with said overlapped extendedportions of the rear panel and to be secured thereto whereby an envelope is pro-' vided with openings through which the contents of the envelope may be inspectedfrom both sides thereof.
