NECKTIE GREASE REMOVER Filed Feb. 11; 1931 Patented Aug. 9, 1932 srrss uairs GEORGE B. HESS, F SEATTLE, WASHINGTON NEGKTIE cnnnsn nnnrovnn,
l Application filed February 11, 1931. Serial No. 515,008.
This invention relates to necktie stretchers or crease removers and the main object isto provide a device by the use of which a necktie may be stretched to remove wrinkles and creases therefrom.
Another object is to provide a device of this nature in a simple, eificient and ineXpensive form and one upon which the necktie may a be readily positioned for stretching. A further object is to provide means in the form of a spread limiting clip whereby the spread of the stretcher may be limited and Varied near its end to stretch neckties of any sha e.
W ith these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth and claimed, reference being had to 1 r the accompanying drawing wherein: V 99 Figure 1 is a plan view showing the stretcher and the end of a tie positioned thereon the latter being shown in broken lines.
Figure 2 is an enlarged section along the line 2-2 in Figure 1. V Figure 3' is an enlarged plan View of the outer end of the stretcher, showing a spread limiting clip in place and showing in broken lines a necktie arranged on the stretcher. Figure 4 is an end view of the spread limiting clip.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing the stretcher is formed of a single length of relatively heavy wire bent medially upon itself to provide the spaced legs 1 and 2 connected by the relatively narrow or sharply bent bight 8 and diverging therefrom, The device is preferably, though not necessarily formed of spring wire and the legs 1 and 2 are spring set to normally move apart.
a 8 and extended toward the same for some i distance where it is then bent back inalignment and spaced relationship upon itself At its outer end the leg 1 is bent laterally toward the other leg 2 as shown at 1 for At its outer end the leg 2 is bent as shown at 9. This construction provides vthe two spaced arms 10 and 11 arranged at right angles .tothe plane of the legs 1 and 2 betweeniwhich the catch-6 carried by legs 1.
extendsas shown. A. look plate 12 is secured around the arm'10 at'l3'and extends toward the arm 11 but terminates short of" contact therewith. A plurality of spaced notches 1 1 areprovided in the edge' of theplate 12 7 adjacent the arm 11 for the reception of the catch 6 on 'leg 1 whereby the legs may be locked'in any spaced'relationship relatively as willv be understood; The-notches 14. are undercut or enlarged inwardly I of their mouths or openings into the edge ofthe plate 12 as shownv at15 the better to receive and hold thesaidcatch 6. 'The arm 11,.lying next the notched edge ofthe locking plate 12 normally prevents the escape of the catch 6 from the notches but the said arm may be, sprung away from said plate whenremoval of the catch from the notches is necessary aswill be understood. The legsl and2 are of course sufiiciently flexible to permit their relative displacement and bending in the adjustment as described. The end of the arm 11 is curved toward the arm 10. adjacent theouter-end of the locking plate 12 as shown at 16 therebeing sufficient space left between-the curved end.
and 'p ila and arm 10 to permit the passageof the catch 6 when necessary. 7
1a theuse of" the device'as described the outer endsof the legs 1 and'2 are drawn together and the stretcher iszthen slippedinto thetie, shown in broken lines 1'7 through the V I open end'the'reof. The outerends of the legs 1 and 2 are then'spread apart until a-lateral tension or pull isput upon the tie and the catch 6 'enga'gedwith the proper notch 14.,
Thetie is thenleft on the stretcher asliifi' cient period to remove the wrinkles or creases as will beunderstood' A." smaller stretcher may beprovided -for the smaller end of the tie if so desired. The-eye 7 serves as a: convenient fhandle for spreading the legs" the while the arm '11 is sprung away from the" arm 10 to'permit the lateral movement ofthe;
catch'6 therebetween.
In Figures 3 and 4; a'spread limiting i'clip designated generally at '23 is shown the *pur to a relatively lesser degree.
I on the end'of one leg, 7 a end of the other leg, the :said'catch passing said catch.
poseof which is to allow the relatively wide or great spreading of the legs 1 and 2 immediately adjacent their outer ends while the spread of the remainder of the legs is limited This makes the stretcher adaptable for use in stretching ties having the relatively widely flaring ends one of which is shown in the broken lines 18. This clip 23 comprises two ffiat'plates 1 9 and pivoted together at their inner sides by the rivet 21 with their sides in overlappingreshown providing marginal open hooks 22.
The clip is arranged at the desired point upon the tie and stretcher with the hooks 22 overlapping the margins-of the tie and the legs ofthe stretcher-and the clip then limits the spread of the legs as will be understood. The pivotal'connec'tionof the plates 19 and 20 allows them to assume the'properrelative angles to fit the legs of the stretcher. This stretcher. an'dclip may of course be; made in various sizes to stretch ties of all sizes.
While I have herein set forth a certain pre- 4 'ferred embodiment. of my invention it is 7 Scope of the appended claims. 7
