J. T. RAMSDEN JARRING ROLLOVER, PATTERN DRAWING, MOLDING MACHINE Filed y 25, 1930 Jafi/z fiance e 6% WM Patented Aug. 2, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN '1'. RAMSDEN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIG-NOB 1'0 THE TABOB MANUFACTURING COMPANY, 01' PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA JARRING ROLLOVER, PATTERN DRAWING, MOLDING MACHINE Application filed May 28,
My device relates to means for drawing a pattern accurately without the use of an auxiliary guide rod to hold the pattern drawing mechanism parallel and true throughout its downward travel.
For a further exposition. of my inventionreference may be had to the annexed drawing and specification at the end whereof my invention will be specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my dev1ce, and
Figure 2 is a cross section on line IIII of Figure 1.
In this type of machine, A is the mam frame; B is a hinged rollover frame; C is a trunnion shaft; D is a guide rod for pattern drawing; E is a sliding housing that carries the adjustable levelin device F; G are counterbalance springs; H is a latch to hold rollover frame down in the osition shown; J is a rollover plate to WlllCll pattern plate may be bolted. A jarring machine may be bolted to main frame A or this may be omitted and the machine j arre'd by hand motion if desired. L is the automatic lock-for locking rollover plate J to rollover frame B when the latter is turned over by hand; N is a fulcrum shaft carried in main frame A; O is a lever connected to E by pins P and hangs on links Q. by pins R; S is a handle for operating levers O and through them, E; T is an adjustable counterweight on lever 0.
As shown on the drawing, E is free to slide vertically on the single guide rod D and is provided with roller bearings shown at U. The sliding guide E and all parts attached thereto are supported by lever O on pins P. The lever O with the counterweight T are supported on pins R. The E group and 0 group are supported by the links Q, on shaft N. Because of the fact that the weight of all these is supported or suspended from the pin N and because the pins R- are located ofi the vertical line by a distance V, the tendency is for this whole weight to swing about the center N in the direction shown by arrow IV. This tendency is resisted by the two pins P 1930. Serial in. 454,850.
(see Fig. 2) one on each side of the guide rod D.
The result is that the pull on pins P tends to rotate E about guide rod D, but since both pins pull one on each side of D they seek a balanced position and hold the flask receiving side of the machine (i. e. F, F) in a true balanced position or central with rod D and the center line X of.the machine. This squaring device is the. feature I wish to cover by Letters Patent.
I do not intend to be limited in the practice of my invention save as the scope of the prior art and of the attached claims may require. For example, a spring may be substituted for counterweight T and the resulting structure still fall within the scope of my invention.
I claim:
1. A molding machine comprising in combination a frame, a guide rod mounted thereon, a housing guided by said rod, a leveling device carried by said housing, a lever pivotally mounted on said frame and pivotally-connected to said housing, and a counterweight carried by said lever so as to hold said housing in engagement with said rod, the centers of said leveling device, said guide rod, and said counterweight bein in the same vertical plane so that said leve 'ng degice is balanced with respect to said guide ro 2. A molding machine comprising in combination a frame, a guide 'rod mounted thereon, a housing guided by said rod, roller bearings carried by said housing in contact with said rod, a leveling device carried by said housing, a lever pivotally mounted on said frame and pivotally connected to said housing, and a counterweight carried by said lever so as to hold said housing in engagement with said rod, the centers of said leveling device, said guide rod, and said counterweight being in the same vertical plane so that said leveling device is balanced with respect to said guide rod.
3. A molding machine comprising in combination a frame, a guide rod mounted thereon, a housing guided by said rod, a leveling device carried by said housing, a link pivotally mounted on said frame, a lever pivotally mounted on said link and pivotally connected to said housing, and a counterweight carried by said lever so as to hold said housing in engagement with said rod, the centers of said leveling device, said guide rod, and said counterweight being in the same vertical plane so that said leveling device is balanced with respect to said guide rod.
4. In a rollover mold drop type machine the combination of a main frame having a single guide rod, a housing slidable on the guide rod, a flask receiver carried by said housing, a pair of links pivoted to the main frame at aligned points, a lever pivoted at two aligned points to the housin and having a counter balance, the interme iate part of said lever being pivoted to the free ends of the links at points out of vertical alignment with the pivotal points of the links with the frame to cause the weight of the suspended parts to-pull towards the rod and square and guide the flask receiver.
