Application filed February 3, 1932. Serial No. '590,713.'
provision of a machine of this character wherein the gathering or scraper blades are so mounted as to permit adjustment thereof for the positioning of the same for either ditching or terracing purposes, the blades being supported in a novel manner and are positioned relative to the ground surface through the medium of controls located fore and aft of the machine and at opposite sides of the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character wherein the controls for theraising and lowering of the blades relative'to a ground surface are properly housed so as to exclude dust and dirt therefrom and thus avoidinterference in the easy handling of such controls.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character.
wherein the adjunctsthereof are novel in form so that the machine can be easilyand conveniently converted for use as a terracing, ditching or road machine;
A further object of the invention is the provision'of a machine of this character which is comparatively simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficacious in its operation, strong durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully describedin detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the-preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of the machine constructed in accordance with the invention showing the same adjusted for terracing purposes.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a rear elevation.
Figure 4 is a view similar, to Figure 1 on Y a reduced scale showing the machine adj usted for use in ditching. u

Similar reference charactersindicate 'corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings. j Referring to the drawings'in detail, particularly Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, the machine comprises a pair of gathering or scraper blades 10 eachbeingpreferably curved in fixed thereto fore and aft coupling members ner presently described.
Disposed crosswise of the blade are front -11 for the mounting of the blades in a man-' a and rear barslor rods 12 and 13 respectively,
17 in the members 11, the latter being fitted with set screws 18 which engage in grooves 19 formed in the shanks 16 'circumferentially thereof and inthis manner the blades 10 are adjustably and detachablycoupled with the blocks 14. I H
' Each block 14 is formed with a cavity or space 20 for accommodating a sector gear 21 splined or keyed t0 theilaterally extendingturning'end 22 of a crank-likehanger 23 hav; ing a wheel spindleterminal 24 for accommodating a traction wheel25. Detachably carried by the blocks 14 are housings 26 each forming a mounting for a worm. screw 27 and the meshing thereof with the gear 21,
the stem 28 of the screw 27 being extended vertically to the proper height and-carries I 70 wardly toward its lowermost edge and has Y the uses of the machine.
Arranged centrally of the machine to rest upon the front and rear bars or rods 12 and 13 is a platform which carries near one end a clip '31 to embrace a bar or rod 12 or 13 and for terracing and ditching operation of the machine the platform 30 has its clip 31 em- I bracing the longer baror rod 12 .at the front of the machine and this platform serves as a stand for the driver or operator of the ma. chine so that the control for raising and loweringthe blades 10 may be manually operated therefromt I 7 Attached to theblades 10 at their inner sides adjacent to the frontend is a chain hitch 32 for the draft of the machine.
' the machine.
In Figure '1 of the drawings the traction wheels 25 are shown disposed outside of the position of the blades 10 in the machine and in this arrangement the machine is set for terracing purposes. I
In Figure 4 of the drawings the wheels 25 are located inside with respect to the blades 10 and in this arrangementthe machine is set for ditching purposes, it being understood of course that the chain hitch 32 under the arrangement in Figure l'has the pull thereof from the inner side of the blades 10 while in Figure asunder the arrangement therein the chain hitch 32 hasthe pull from the outer side of said blades 10. Now it will .be'apparent that the relative disposition of the blades 10 with respect to each other may be altered by adjusting the blocks 14 on the bars or rods 12and 13 andon manipulating the hand wheels 29 the cranks 23 for the wheels 25 can he angularlyadjusted to regulate the lift or the raising and lowering of said blades 10. g V I On adjustment of the machine for rearranging it for terracing and ditchin purposes certain parts, for example, the lades 10, are reversed and the draft also reversed as will be clearly evident from Figures 1 and llof the drawings.
g Ihe. range of lateral adjustment of the blades 10 is according to the length of the bars or rods 12 and 13 and the control for the wheels 25 will regulate the raising and lowspaced fore and aft rods, blocks adjustably connected to the rods, crank hangers swingingly mounted in the blocks, traction wheels on the crank hangers, gathering blades swingingly supported from the blocks, and means for vertically swinging the crank hangers. I v
2. In a machine of the kinddescribed, spaced fore and aft rods, blocks adjustably connected to the rods, crank hangers swingingly mounted in-tlie blocks, traction wheels on the crank hangers, gathering blades swing ingly supported from the blocks, means for vertically swinging the crank hangers, and a platform arranged upon the rods intermediate of the location of the blades.
3. In a machine of. the kind described, spaced fore and aft rods, blocks adjustably connected to the rods, crank hangers swingingly mounted in the blocks, tractionwheels .for vertically swinging the crank hangers, a
platform arranged upon the rods intermediate of the location of the blades, a chain hitch connected with the blades near one end of each of the same, and means for clamping the platform to one of the rods: v
.5. In a machine of the kind described, spaced fore and aft rods, blocks adjustably connected to the rods, crank hangers ingly mounted in the blocks, traction wheels ering of the blades 10 and these controls permit independent adjustments fore and aft of What is claimed is 7 I r j 1. In a machine of the kind described,
