- This invention relates to improvements in depth gaging devices for tillage disks particularly thosesuch as are employed on grain drills.
3 More specifically, the invention relates to improved means for adjusting the positlon of the gaging means. to y In the use of tillage disks for certain purposes incertain' types of soil, it has been found desirable to attach a gage band to the disks concentric with'respect thereto to maintain the working depthof the disk at a. predetermined level. It has also been found desirable to provide means for altering the radial positionof the gage band. The U. S. patent to (lady, #1,790,089, discloses and claims a tillage'disk having anadjustable gage band. The principalobject of thisinvention is to provide improved means for altering the radial position of a gage band for tillage disks.
Other objects and the means by which they are accomplished will be apparent from the detailed description to follow.

Figure 5 isa section taken on the line 5 -5 of Figured I The invention is illustrated as embodied in .an organization as shown in Figures 1 and 2, comprising a furrow'opening disk 10 having a hub ll rigidly secured thereto. The hub 1 has a central axial opening by which means the disk is mounted upon a seed drill or other implementon which it is to be used. A plurality. ofcircumferentially spaced bracket members 12 are secured to the face of the disk by bolts 13 extending through the members and through the disk. The bolts 13 are evenly spaced.circumferentially and equally spaced from the'center of the disk. Said bolts form pivot axesfor the members 12.
Each bracket member 12 has a head portion 14 which extends at right angles to the surface of the disk to form a support for the gage band 15. The outer surface of the head portion 14 is curved spect to the pivot axis of the member 12 on the bolt 13. The head portion 14.- is provided with an upwardly extending flange 16 spaced from the disk 10 a distance equal to the width of the band 15 gages the band internally and laterally to hold it in position against the disk.
Each member 12 is also provided with a lever arm 17 extending inwardly toward the center of the disk. An annular actuating member 18 is mounted concentrically with respect to the hub 11 around the periphery thereof, the outer edge of the hub forming a guide contacting with the inner edge of said member. The member 18 is provided with pairs ofspaced regularly extending lugs 19. Each pair ofsaid lugs is positioned to embrace one of the levers 17. The lugs are of a sufiicient distance apartv to allow rotative movement of the member 18 without binding the lever 17 against the lugs. At one location around its periphery the member is provided with an extension 20 in which a circumferentially extending slot 21 is formed. A bolt 22 extends through said slot and through the disk 10. The gage band 15 is provided with a plurality of spaced holes 28 adjacent one end thereof; Said holes provide means for attaching the ends of the band together in a plurality of extended positions by means of a bolt 24- extending through an opening in the other end of the band.
Figure 2 shows the gage band in contracted position; This position permits a maximum depth of penetration of the disk 10. To move the age band 15 radially outwardly the bolt 24 is removed and positioned in one of the openin s 23, which will give the band an increased diameter. .The bolt 22is then loosened and the member18 is rotated in a direction to move the levers 17 in such a direction that the head portion 14 of each member 12 will move radially outwardly. When the desired adjustment has been se" cured, the bolt 22 is securely tightened. Thebolts 13 may also be tightened if it is so desired. In providing this actuating means for the band bracket members, the band may be quickly and accurately adjusted circumferentd-iallly and held in concentric position on the 1s r. Figures 3, 4, and 5 show a modified form of actuating means for simultaneously moving the band supporting bracket members. The

' Qutward extensions 29 provide means for engaging the. outer edge of the gage band 30. The gage band is formed as an extensible element by being provided with a plurality of openings 31 adjacent one end and a removable bo1t. 32' extending through one of said openings and throughan opening in'the other end of theband. Each of the members 26. is provided with an apertured ear 33 extending radially inwardly with respect .to-the bolt 27 as shown in thecontracted position in Figure 3.. Each ofthe members'26 is also provided with a second apertured extension34'. As
best shown in Figure 5, theextension "33 lies close to the disk 25.] Theextension ,34 is spaced outwardly a considerable distance therefrom for a purpose tobe hereinafter described. The extensions 33 and 34 area sufficient axial distance apart'to provide for rotativemovementof the bracket members 26, as will be hereinafter described, without engagement of the two links which cross one another. Figure 4 illustrates this modification of the invention with the gage band in extended position. To obtain such an adjustment the band 30- is extended and the bolts 27 are loosened to permit rotation ofthe members 26. As the members are all linked together, as above described, they are simultaneously rotated an equally angular distance, whereby the band is engaged and held in concentric relation with respect to the disk 25. When the desired adjustment has been accomplished, the bolts 27 are tightened to maintain the members 26 in position.
It is to be understood that applicant has shown and described only certain preferred embodiments of his depth gage fortillag'e disks and that he claims as his invention all modifications falling within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
l. The combinationwith' atillage diskiof av plurality of bracket members pivotally mounted on a face of the disk at circumferentially spaced points around its center and formed with angular extensions perpendicular to the disk face, a' circular extensible gage band seated on said angular extensions, and means to simultaneously move the bracket members equally radial distances.
2. The combination with a tillage disk of a plurality of bracketmembers mounted on a faceof the disk at circumferentially spaced points. around its center and .formed with angular extensions perpendicular to the disk face, a. circular extensible gage band seated on said angular extensions, and means to simultaneously. move the bracket. members equally angular. distances. 1 V

The combination with a tillage disk of a. plurality of bracket members supported on a faceof the. disk at circumferentially spaced points around its center, said members each aving a portion mounted. on the disk for angular adjustment and a headportion perpendicular to the disk face and curved on an arc eccentric to the axis of angular. adjustment, an extensible band seated on the head portionsv of said members, and .means' to simultaneouslyangularly adjust said members radially of the disk. V 4. The combination with a. tillage disk of a plurality of bracket members supported on a face of the disk at circumferentially spacedpoints around its center, said members each having a portion mountedon the disk for adjustment radially and a head portion perpendicularto the disk face and curved on anarc eccentric to the axis of angular adjustment, an extensible band seated on the head portions of saidmembers, and means to simultaneously adjust said members.
5. A tillage disk depth gage comprising in combination with. a disk an annular extensible band, a plurality of spacing members rotatably secured to the disk on fixed axes, said members being shaped to engage and positioned to hold said band against the disk concentric with respect thereto, the engaging surfaces on the members being eccentric with respect to the axes of the members whereby rotation of the members alters the radius of their engaging surfaces, and means to simultaneously rotate each of said members an equal angular distance.
6. A device as set forth in claim 3 in which each of the spacing members is provided with an inward extension and in which an actuating member mounted concentrically with respect to the disk is operable to engage and simultaneously rotate each of the spacing members an equal angular distance.
7. A device as set forth in claim 3, in which each of the spacing members is connected by a link to one of the other spacing members, said links being so connected that when one of the members is rotated each of the other members is rotated an equal angular distance.
