CHANNEL Filed Sept. 5, 1930 INVENTORI ML TE/P S GA/A/[S JiR ATTORNEYS Patented July 12, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WALTER S. GAINES, JE., OF EAST CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNORLTO THE REID PRODUCTS COMPANY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO I cmuunn Application filed September 5, 1930. Serial No. 479,866.
ing the base, generally indicated at A, and the side portions, generally indicated at B, which are bent to provide lips C.
In being applied, the channel may be twisted or bent to bring it in place and such twisting or bending may occur not only sideways, but may be in a back and forth direction in a plane corresponding to that to be occupied by the Window pane. When bent properly it will conform nicely to various shapes and will retain such configuration.
The invention disclosed in this application relates to flexible channel provided with a soft covering or coating for receiving and guiding window panes generally, and particularly those of motor vehicles.
The object of the present invention is to improve the core of flexible window channel so that it may be twisted or flexed in its application to the window groove and may be permanently set in bent form in this roove so as to follow nicely the configuration of the door or window no matter what that 0011- Having described my invention, I claim: figuration may be. It is especially useful in 1. core for a window channel made up of cases where the window frame has a shape a strip of thin flexible metal and stamped other than the normal rectangular configuraout to provide continuous edge portions and tion. transverse straps extending at an angle to Specifically the invention contemplates a each other to provide openings therebetween, molding comprising a core consisting of conwhereby the channel may be flexed back and tinuous edge portions for engagement with forth in the plane to be occupied by the winthe window pane and transverse connecting dow pane. webs or bars formed to provide elongated 2. This produces channel stock which 50 is afterwards formed into U-shape comprislarly extending straps longitudinally spaced to provide transverse openings therebetween, each of said openings extending transversely from a point within one side wall of said channel member through the bottom thereof to a point within the other side wall of said tions being connected by transverse, angu- 'channel member, whereby said channel member may be flexed back and forth in the plane to be occupied by the window pane which said channel member is adapted to receive, alternatestraps being arranged in parallel relation.

prising a generally channel shaped thin flex ible metal strip having continuous longitudinal edge portions, which portions constitute the free or upper edge portions of the side walls of said channel member, said edge portions being connected by transverse straps angularly extending, and longitudinally spaced to provide generally triangular shaped openings therebetween, each of said openings extending transversely from a point within one side wall of said channel member through the bottom thereof to a point within the other side. wall of said channel member, whereby said channel member may be'fiexed back and forth in the plane to be occupied by the window pane which said channel member is adapted'to receive.
5. A metal core for a window channel, comprising a generally channel shaped thin flex-- ible metal strip having continuous longitudinal edge portions, which portions constitute the free or upper edge portions of the side walls of said channel member, said edge portions being connected by transverse straps angularly extending and longitudinally spaced to provide generally triangular shaped openings therebetween, each of said openings extending transversely from a point within one side wall of said channel member through the bottom thereof to a point within the other side wall of said channel member,
whereby said channel member may be flexed back and forth in the plane tobe occupied by the window pane which said channel member is adapted to receive, the wider end of each of said openings lying between the narrower ends of adjacent openings.
In testimony whereof I hereby afiix my signature.
