This invention relates generally to snow plows adapted to be pushed or carried by a motor vehicle or the-like, and particularly to a snow plow of this type WlllCll is adapted especially to deliver the snow to either side of the road or the like upon adjusting the same. 7 It is an object of this invention to provide a snow plow of this type which is simple and effective in construction, cheap to manufacture and which at the same time is very efiicient and capable of adjustment to deliver the snow at the will of the operator to either side of the road or the like.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a. snow plow of the type described which shall be sufliciently rugged and properly constructed to resist the strains and stresses of snow plowing and which will therefore be durable and efficient for the purposes for which it is designed.
These and other objects of the invention, its nature, its combination and arrangement and composition of parts will be readily understood by anyone acquainted with the art to which this invention relates by consulting the following descriptions of the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a snow plow constructed according with the principles of my invention installed on a motor truck.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a front view of the blade structure.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional View of one of the brace structures. 7
Referring in detail to the drawings the numeral 5 designates generally a substantially rectangular blade placed at an angle to the ground and having a lower edge portion 6 deflected somewhat into the horizontal for providing the proper cutting angle of the blade. Projecting forwardly at each side of the lower end portion 6 of the blade 5 is a vertically disposed longitudinally elongated plate 7 which is attached as shown at 8 to the lower forward angular portion of a pair of side plates 9.
On the outer upper portions of the blade 5 and inclined at opposite upward angles therefrom is a pair of curvate snow delivery extensions 10. Pivotally mounted at 11 in the center of the blade 5 is a curvate snow de-. livery blade 12 adapted to be swung so that either end may be the lower end and either end may be the upper end. As indicated in Figure 3 one end of the blade 12 is downwardly positioned in a notch 18 in the member 7 and the other end of the blade in this position is nested in the curvate delivery extension 10. Of course, when theposition shown in Figure 3is reversed the exact opposite disposition obtains.
It was found that such a pivot as that indicated at 11 was not strong enough to resist the strains and stresses of actual service conditions of operation of the plow, and it is, therefore, provided that brace members 14 be used to. properly brace the delivery blade 12in its relative positions. Reference to Figure 4 will disclose the constructionof the brace members 14. They consist of a substantially triangular body 15 having a curvate side 16 which is attached by any suitable means 17 to the back of the curvate delivery blade 12. An extension of the body 15 denominated 18 has a retractible manually operated pin 19 working through a recess 20 in which is confined a coiled spring 21 normally projecting the lower end 22 of the pin 19 into holes-in the plate 5. In the embodiment shown two of the brace members 14 v are used, one ateach end of the delivery tube, and it is believed obvious that the holes 23 in the plate 5 are so placed as to be engaged by the pins 19 to maintain the delivery blade 12 securely and rigidly and strongly in the position desired. are provided for mounting the plow in suitable position at the front or other position with relation to a traction engine, motor vehicle or the like. Preferably a rear cross member 26 braces the rear of the plow and spacesthe side members 9 to maintain the plow rigidly and strongly assembled. Of course, it will be understood that the number of the brace members 14 may be conveniently increased and they may also be differently and relatively placed.

It is also possible to reverse the delivery blade so'that when removing the snow from one side of the road work may be doneon the other side of the road. It will readily be appreciated that the lower end of the delivery blade when in working position comes flush with the edge of the cutting blade makingit possible to cut a straight vertical wall of snow. There is'no protruding blade' to catch anobject beyond the tread of the plow. The vertical side members 9 operate positively to prevent the plow from deviating from at an effective speed, the snow isthrownsufliciently high to clear fences and the like.
It is to be definitely understood that I do not desire tolirnit the application of this invention to the particular modification set out herein and any change or changes may be made in material and structure and arrangement of parts consistent with the spirit and scope of the invention;
