STOVE V Filed June 18, 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 /7 1 INVBNTUQ HHUNER HTTEJRNBYS- Patented July 5, 1932 HENRY HONER, F IALMS STATION, CALIFORNIA STOVE Application filed June 18,
This invention relates to improvements in stoves.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved stove construction having one or more ovens with a burner box designed to heat with either gas fuel,'oil, or electrlc heating elements, with a fire box or incinerator constructed in the stove, and a common cover serving to cover over the burner .box and the 0 top of the fire box. Where the stove has two ovens, one of the ovens has a table top arranged thereover and the cover designed to cover the burner box and fire box is designed to assume a position approximately flush with the table top when in covering position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a stove having a common cover for the burner box'and fire box and having suitable provision made for carrying ed the heated air which would otherwise tend to accumulate under the cover when the cover is lowered into covering position while the burner box or fire box is still warm.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be made manifest in the following detailed description, and specifically pointed out in the appendedclaims, reference is had to the accompanying drawings for an illustrative embodiment of the invention, 99 wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view, parts being broken away, illustrating the improved stove.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken substantially upon the line 2-2 upon Figure 1.
5 Fig. 3 is a back View in elevation and may be regarded as having been taken upon the line 3-3 upon Figure 2.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken upon the line 4-4 upon Figure 2.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view, on an enlarged scale, illustrating details of construction.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout, the improved stove is supported upon suitablelegs 10 and has a left hand oven 11 and a right hand oven 12. Dver the right hand oven 12 there is mounted a stationary table top 13 and over the left hand oven 11 there is mounted a burner box 14. This burner box may have Serial N0. 545,183.
electric heating elements or may be provided with gas burners or oil burners. Between the ovens there is provided a fire box, this be ing formed by walls 15 and 16 which are spaced from the walls of the ovens 11 and 12, providing air passages 17 and 18. A grate 19 is disposed in the fire box and a suitable ash receptacle 20, which can be readily removed, is disposed thereunder. The top of the fire box indicated at 21 has perforations or apertures 22 therein which communicate with the top of the air passages 17 and 18. This top is likewise provided with large apertures for the reception of removable lids 23. The back guard of the stove is indicated at 24 and this back guard has a central air chamber 25 which is provided with a grille 26. A fine collar 27, having a damper 28, communicates with the fire box and carries off the products of combustion to a stove pipe 29. Oven flue collars 30 and 31 are connected to the backs of the ovens 11 and 12 and serve to convey vapors from the ovens to the flue collar 27. A common cover 32 is provided which is common to both the burner box 14 and the fire box. This cover has downwardly extending side flanges 33 extending completely around the cover except for a portion immediately be low the grille 26. The bottom of the back guard 24 is slightly spaced from the top 21 of the fire box and the top of the burner box 14. This cover is hinged to the back guard as by hinges 34. I
The burner box 14 and the ovens 11 and 12 are more or less conventional and operate in the conventional r manner. Refuse of all kinds may be burned in the fire box, serving as an incinerator and thus disposed of, or wood and coal can be burned in the fire box for heatingpurposes if desired. l/Vhen the stove is not in use the cover 32 can be lowered into closing position, as shown in Figure 2,'covering over both the burner box and the fire box. The top surface of the cover is approximately flush with the table top 13. The heated air which rises from-the top of the fire box and the burner box, in the event that the cover is lowered while the stove is still warm, may pass through the opening in the back of the cover, which is immediately below the grille,
and pass up through the air chamber 25 in the back guard and out through the grille. In this manner there is no danger of the cover being overheated to destroy the appearance of the enamel thereon.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A stove having an oven, aburner box thereover, a fire box arranged at the side of the burner box and oven, a removable cover adapted to cover over the top of the burner box and the top of the fire box, there being a back guard for the stove having an air passage therethrough, and a grille mounted on the back guard over the outlet from the air passage, said cover being downwardly concave and communicating with said air passage when in closing position so as to collect heated air from the burner box and fire box and cause it to pass through the air passage before beingdischarged into the room.
2. A stove having a pair of ovens, a burner box arranged over one oven, a table top arranged over the other oven, a fire box arrangd between the ovens, a removable cover adapted in covering position to cover the top of the burner box and the top of the fire box and to assume a position flush with the table top, there being a back guard for the stove having an air passage therethrough, and a grille mounted on the back guard over the outlet from the air passage, said cover being downwardly concave and communicating with said air passage when in closing position so as to collect heated air from the burner box and fire box and cause it to pass through the air passage before being discharged into the room.
3. A stove having an oven, a burner box thereover, a fire box arranged at the side of the burner box and oven, a removable cover adapted to cover over the top of the burner box and the top of the fire box, there being a back guard for the stove having an air passage therethrough, a grille mounted on the back guard over the outlet from the air passage, said cover being downwardly concave and communicating with said air passage when in closing position so as to collect heated air from the burner box and fire box and cause it to pass through the air passage before being discharged into the room, there being air passages between the fire box and the ovens, and apertures in the top of the fire box communicating therewith.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
HENRY HONER.
