MASSENA B. `ERSKINE AND CLINTON A. WEED, OF RACINE, WISCONSIN,
ASSIGNORS TO J. I. CASE & CO., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ADJUSTABLE TlGHTENlNd-ROLLERS AND REMOVABLE 'GIRTS..
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,466, dated January 23, 1877; application filed June26, 1876.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, MAssENA B. ERSKINE and CLINTON A. WEED, of Racine, in the county ot' Racine, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Adjustable Tightening-Rollers and Removable Girts, of which the following is a specication:
Our invention has for its object the tightening the gearing of horse-powers by means of an adjustable roller, and removing the girt, so as to take out the roller, which is attached to same, and `permit the taking out the shaft. for repairs or otherwise. A more particular description will be given of same in the following specitication.
Figure lis a View ofthe roller and removable girt; Fig. 2, a sectional view of the roller in position holding the gear to the driving-pulley, and Fig. 3 a view of the roller and its adjustable holders.
A is the adjustable roller; B, the gear, which is held by the roller to the driving-piu ion; C, driving-pinion; D D, adjustable bolts and nuts passing through slots in the ends of j piece Which hold the roller, and into' the metal piece which sustains the piece E 5 E, a metal piece which holds roller A, With slots in its ends. This piece may be raised or lowered, as
may be required, to hold roller A up to lthe gear; F F, end pieces with pockets secured to the frame G, into which the ends of girt I rest; H H, bolts which secure the ends of girt I in the pockets of pieces F F; K, crossbar of the frame, to which girt L is attached; M, a metal frame, through which bolts and nuts D D hold piece E up to through slots iu the end of same; N, a slot in metal frame M, by which M is secured by' bolt O to girt L; P P, bolts Which-secure cross-bar K to frame G.
This roller is adj usted to run as may be necessary by loosening the bolts D D, and raising or lowering the piece E, and tightening up the bolts again, and the roller and girt may be taken out for repairs by taking out bolts H H and P P. This will allow the roller, and frame which holds same, to be removed from the frame of the horse-power.
We claim as new, and as our invention- Adjustable roller A,metal piece E, bolts `D D, and metal frame M, in combination with removable girt I, girt L, and cross-bar K, substantially as described.
