Description

June 21,l 1932. c. c. COVEY SPRAYING NOZZLE Filed July 9, 1930 MVM attoz weg in Figure l.
Patented June 21, 1932 UNITED sTATs SPR-.A YING N OZZLE Application nled July 9,
This invention relates to improvements in spraying nozzles.
The main object is to provide, in a simple and elcient form, a nozzle comprising a spraying pipe or head and a handle secured to the spraying pipe and provided with a conveniently located valve for controlling the spray emitted from the device.
Another and important object is to provide an eflicient and novel means to prevent water from dripping or running down from the spraying pipe onto the handle and so coming in Contact with the operatorshands.
The foregoing and other objects together with means whereby the same may be carried into effect will best be understood from the following description of a preferred embodiment of the invention taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawing wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a section along the line 2 2 Figure 3 is an enlarged section along the line 3-3 in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section along the line 4-4 in Figure 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing the reference character 1 designates a spray pipe or spray head and 2 a handle formed preferably integrally with the spray pipe and extended at right angles from a medial point thereof. Both the pipe 1 and handle 2 are provided with the communicating bores 3 and 4 and are preferably though not necessarily, hexagonal in cross section at their outer surfaces as shown. The ends of the spray pipe 1 are rounded and threaded as at 5 and end caps G are threaded thereon, the said caps having ears or lugs 7 extended outward from their outer periphery as a means for readily removing the caps without the use of any tools. rlhe end of the handle 2 is flared and internally threaded as designated at 8 to provide a means for attaching the supply hose carrying the liquid to be sprayed to the spray pipe. The handle 2 is bulged outwardly at 9 adjacent the spray pipe l and is provided with a tapering valve seat or socket 10, the smaller end of which 0 is partially closed by an annular lip 11 thus 1930. Serial No. 466,751.
providing a central aperture 12 as shown. A
tapered valve or plug in the valve seat 10 13 is rotatably seated and has a stud 14 eX- tended'from its smaller end aperture 12. An expansion braced between the handle 2 out through the coil spring 15 is and a collar 16 secured near the end of the stud 14 and this spring thus serves to hold the valve 13 in its seat. The valve 13 has a diametrically extended passageway 17 which when aligned with the bore 4 in th water to flow therethrough e handle 2, allows the into the pipe 1.
A stem 18 is secured to the larger end of the valve 13 as a means for rotating the said valve and stops 19 are provided on the handle 2 in such position is pushed over against passageway 17 will be that when the stem 18V either of the'stops the turned out of registry with the bore 4 to shut off the'flow of water through the handle. apertures 20 are prov of the spray pipe in a A plurality of spray ided through the wall longitudinally eX- tended and spaced row as shown.
In use the handle water supply and is valve assembly and the 2 is connected to the grasped between the flared end 8. the stem 18 being thus conveniently operable by the thumb of the users hand as will be understood. The spray emi tures 20 may thus be the spray of course tted by the spray aperreadily controlled and may be directed downward, upward or outward at any angle by moving the hand.
In order to prevent water from dripping or flowing back` upon the hand of the user a drip lip or shoulder 21 is formed on the pipe 1 and is extended longitudinally along the pipe and located between the spray apertures 20 and the handle 2. parent that water w flow back upon the hand It will hich otherwise would of the user will be deflected by the lip 21 and will drip from the edge thereof to fa While I have herein ll clear of the hand.
set forth a certain preferred embodiment of my invention it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor structural details, not departing from the spirit of the the scope of the appe invention and within nded claim.
be readilyv ap- I claim In a dev-ice of the k1 ated spray head mounted transver d of a Water delivering pipe,v the said 5 spray head having a. plur dspray apertures,
g the en dispose nd described, an elonsely at ality of forwardly a drip lip orrned along the under Side of ,theslprary pipe 1mmediately b In testimo ny CH ackofthesaidzspray apertures.
whereof I aiix my signature. a
