Description

,June 7, 1932. M. BAYAN SMOKERS PACKAGE Filed Aug. 1e, 1929 INVENTOR lah renoefl dyan 6/ ATTORNEY l 'atenttu il"June 7, 1 93 2- mwnnncr. ianayan, or
nnanwoon, RHODE ISLAND K I smo mns PACKAGE Application" iilqrAugust16,1929. Serial No. 386,456.
This invention relates to smokers articles and has for its main object to provide: a
' videan article of the character described re-' handy, novel and artistic-container or bowl, filled with tobacco. and normallyiprotected by a thin wrapper, the 'con'tents'of which may be readily and convenientlysmoked when de sired and the rest then thrown away.
Another object of this invention is to prosembling a pipe, which may be used and enjoyed like a pipe by inserting a pipe stem in a convenient hole therein. v
Still other objects of this'invention are to provide an article as characterized hereinbefore which will be artistic in appearance,
which will be Wrapped or enclosed'in a weatherproof cover to retain the tobacco in a desirable condition, which will be handy and convenient to use,'inexpensive, and adapted to be distributed in packages containing-a plurality of such units ready for use.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent as the specification of the same pro-- tobacco filled bowl during the operation of wrapping the same in a semi-transparent thin protecting cover.
Fig. 2-.is a sectional elevation of a ready tobacco filled bowl with its'protecting cover f sealed at the bottom thereof.
, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a bowl after the protecting cover has been removed.
Fig. 4 is awsectipng l elevation of'such a A bowl'indicating them nner'in which a steam may be inserted therein prior to being smoked.
Fig. 5 is a perspectiveview of a'bowl of the nature described with a stem inserted therein (T p V manner at 19a anmnh wilfbe .mserted' in Fig. 6 is a perspective'view of a-box conthe hole 11 after the wrapper has been re-' in and ready to be smoked, while taining several units of wrapped and sealed tobacco filled bowls, portions of the box be-' ing broken away to more clearly show the arrangement of the contents thereof.
Referring now to the-drawjngfibymharacriiliL ters of reference, the numeral 10 indicates a "container for the tobacco being, open at, the
top and reduced or converging towards a 1 closed bottom of the same, in general resem- A bling a pipe, and having a hole 11 provided 60 therethrough near its bottom.
T his container or bowl may be made of any suitable material, like wood, clay, porcelain, cork, or any other. fireproof composition, so as to make the same adapted to smoke tobacco therein. The bowl will then be filled with a suitable tobacco 12, in a mannenresembling that used in filling a pipe bowl, after which the filled bowl is wrapped or enclosed in a thin weather and waterproof cover 13, which is sealed in any suitable manner, as indicated at 14, so as to hermetically enclose the bowl and the tobacco therein. The protecting and sealing layer may consist of waxed paper or like material and it may be fully or semitransparent.
In Fig. 1 the protecting layer 13 is shown as brought down toa point 15 and then a piece of cord or a ring 16 is applied therearound to secure the loose ends, whereupon the superfiflOllS material, indicated at 17, may be cut 0 I v v A In Fig. Q the protecting layer 13 is made with overlapped ends 13a and 13?) at the bottom of the container, then'a seal 18 is applied thereto. In this modification a stem 19 is also indicated which is secured in'an appro-' priate hole 11 in the bowl 10. A registering hole 11a being provided ":in the sealing wrapper 13 and the material ofsaid wrapper made to closely adhere to the stem 19. In'Fig. 4 is shown a cross section of the ,bowl 10'with the tobacco therein after the protecting and sealing layer has been .re-
moved therefrom. In this normal, and preferred, form of my invention, a separate stem fis usedfiwhichis'indicate dflin an imaginary;
moved from the ready container of the tobacco.
Fig. 5 shows a container 10 with the stem 19a inserted in its hole and the whole being readyfor smoking.
-In Fig. 6 I show a box 20 containing a number of my ready smokers packages 21 arran ed therein and a number of loose stems 22 pac ed with the same.
It is obvious that my invention provides a simple, inexpensive and novel device for the comfort of smokers. The small containers or bowls may be made with many artistic and interesting designs of a cheap material and when their wrap ers have been removed they may be smoke y inserting a separate stem or by attachin a stem to the bowl'when preparing-and pac ing it. After smoking, the container and stem may be thrown away and a new one taken, if so desired. These ready smokers packages'may also be made with small dimensions adapted to be smoked by ladies and packed and manufactured in an artistic manner, somewhat resembling packages of candy. Said packages may conveniently be served at dinners and other gathermgs.
It is also obvious that my invention will obviate the carrying around of a soiled pipe, packages of tobacco, it also will eliminate the operations of filling and cleaning the pipes and will always insure a pipe ready to be smoked, filled with freshly preserved and rightly packed tobacco of the desired quality. What I claim as new, is: 1. A smokers article, comprising a container of substantially fireproof material, open at the top, having a. reduced closed bottom, resembling and adapted to be used as near its bottom; a filling of tobacco in said container to secure the loose ends of said cover.
4. A smokers article com risin a container of substantially fireproof material, open at the top, having a reduced closed bottom, resembling and adapted to be used as a pipe bowl, and having a hole for a stem near its bottom; a filling of tobacco in said container, and a weatherproof, thin, light sealing cover therearound, said sealing cover being an integral piece of flexible material placed on top of said containerand wrapped container, and a weatherproof, thin, light 1 I sealing cover therearound,,said sealing cover being an integral piece of flexible material placed on top of said container and wrapped around the same from said too to the bottom thereof, and a member at the bottom of the container to secure the loose ends of said cover, sa1d sealing cover being transparent, a hole in said cover registering with said hole in the container; a stem passing v through said two holes, said cover being sealed around said stem,
