This invention relates to photography, and more particularly to color photography. One object of my invention is to prov de a film for use in color photography with a standard color screen. with a color ratio controller which will give the most accurate color rendering with the particular film used. Another object is to attach the ratio controller to the film in such a way that there is but little chance of its being accidentally overlooked.
Another object of my invention is to provide a color ratio controller and a suitable receptable therefor which may be cheaoly manufactured and which may be discar ed after using. Other objects will appear from the following specification, the novel features being particularly pointed out in the claims at the end thereof.
This invention relates particularly to a color process in which a film is provided on one surface with minute lenticular members and on the other side is provided with an emulsion sensitive to light of a wide variety of wave lengths. As is well-known in the photo-graphic art it is difiicult, if not impossible, to provide a series of different panchromatic emulsions which are all equally sensitive to the same colored light rays.
As it is desirable to use standard multicolored filters with such color films, it is necessary, in order to obtain the most perfect color films possible, to alter the relative areas or light transmission qualities of the various differently colored filter areas for different emulsions.
'My invention is particularlydirected to providing a suitable means for adjusting a standard filter to different film emulsions having different sensitivities for the various colors.
Coming now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote like parts throughout Fig. 1 is a perspective view, partially broken away, of a film package constructed in accordance with andillustratinga preferred embodiment of my invention;

It is customary to sell motion picture film on spools or reels and in some cases these are enclosed in a metallic housing which in turn is placed in a suitable receptacle for mailing. As shown in Figure 1, a film package 1 may consist of a suitable cardboard box inside of which there is a metallic film receptacle 2 of a type shown in U. S. Patent No. 1,510,788, J. G. Capstaff, October 7, 1924:.
In this type of filmpackage the film leader strip 3 passes out of a slot 4 through the walls of the container. This leader strip is provided with the usual perforations 5 for the pulldown claws. In accordance with my in vention I have attached to the film leader strip a receptacle 6. which contains a color ratio controller 7 havingan irregular opening 8 which permits light rays from a stand ard filter to pass to the film F, as will be more fully hereinafter described.
As best shown in Figure 2 the color ratio controller 7 maybe placed in a paper or light cardboard box 6 which consists of a bottom 9 having two slots 1010 through which the leader strip 3 may be'threaded (see also Figure 3). From the bottom 9 flaps 12 extend from each of two sides and flaps 13 extend from each of the other two sides. Both sets of flaps may be bent upon the weakened lines 14 to fold over the color ratio controller,and the flaps may be fastened to form a box by means of a'paster 15.
In Figure 5 there is shown at 16 a stand-j ard filter which may be used in connection with a camera objective. This filter consists of a series of multi-colored bands three being used in the type illustrated, the three areas being defined 174", 17g, 17-7), since these instance comprises a fiatplate19l1aving irregular cut-out portions 8 adapted to limit, more or less, the light passing through the filter areas 17-7", 17.g, and -17'?). The plate 19 is provided with a fiange 20 having a cut-out 21 adapted to engage a lug 22 on the filter mount. This lug insures the correct position of the color ratio controller when it is pressed in position with the flange %0 embracing the tubular extension 23 of the lter.
Since the filter is fiXedly'located with respect'to the film, the filter bands and the color ratio controller will also have a-fixed position with respect to the lenticular elements L on the film F.
7 A film gate is diagrammatically shown in Figure '5 as consisting of a front plate 24 having an exposure aperture cutout as indicated at 25and having a back presser plate 26 for holdingthe film flat in position for exposure. The film F is provided with a thin layer of light sensitive emulsion E of a type sensitive to a wide range of colors. The irregular cutout 8 of the color ratio controller is determined by the color sensitvity of the film and an individual controller is provided for each batch or coating of emulsion'preferably after actually testing the coating for its color'sensitivity.
It is not necessary that the color ratio controller-be in the form shown in Figure 5, since there are many ways of controlling the area-of a'multi-color-filter, as are shown in the following applications for patent Serial Numbers 214,540, 214,541, 214,542, all filed August 22, 1927, in the name of Merrill W. Seymour. Obviously, any of the forms of color ratio controllers used in these applications may be adapted for use with my invention.
Obviously, the container for the color ratio controller may be made in a variety of ways. For instance, as-shown in Figures 4 and 6, the controller 7 may be mounted in a cup 28 over which a cap 29-may telescope, this cap being provided with lugs 30-which may be bent over-the film'leader strip 31.
As will appear from theforegoing specification,'I have provided -a film package which contains a color ratio controller designed especially to accurately correetfor color sensitivity of the film contained in the package. By placing the container in the film package and by attaching it directly to the film leader strip, the attention of a photographer is immediately called to the ratio controller so that there is very little chance of his failing to place the controller on the color filter before threading the film into a camera. This is especially true Where the controller is placed on the film leader strip, because it would be diflicult, if not quite impossible, to thread the leader strip in a camera without first removing the color ratio controller.
lVhile ,I have described in the specification and illustrated in the drawing, a preferred form of my invention, obviously other forms may be workedout which would come within thescopeof my invention and'I contemplate as within .the'scope of my invention all-such forms as may come within the. scope of the appended claims.
. Having thus described my invention, What I claim is new andzdesiring to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. As an article of manufacture, a photographic roll film package includinga film sensitive to a plurality of colored light rays and adapted to be usedwith a multi-colored filter, a leader strip for the -film, a color ratio controller removably attached to the leader strip, said controller having light transmittingareas adapted to alter light rays passing through .said filter to the film in accordance with the color sensitivity. of said film.
2. As an article of manufacture, a photographic film package including a strip of film sensitive to a plurality of colors, and adapted for use with a filter having areas transmitting light of different colors, a light protective covering for said films, a color ratio controller for use with the filterandtfilm and having areas corresponding .in position to the areas of the filter and constructed to transmit light through said filter areas'in accordance with the color sensitivity of the film,
and means detachably connecting the color ratio controller ,to the light protective covering for the film.
3. As an article of manufacture, a photographic film package including a strip of film senstive to a plurality of colors, and adapted for use with a filter having areas transmitting light of different colors, a leador strip for said film, a color ratio controller for use with the filter and film andehaving areas corresponding in position to the areas of the filter and constructed to transmit light through said filter areas in accordance with the color sensitivity of the film, and, a con tainer for said color ratio controller connected to the leader strip'forthe film.
