This invention relates to improvements in display devices, and more particularly to a probable telescopic support in which a display sheet is housed when being shipped or not in use, and when distended or in assembled position cooperates with a display sheet to form a positive supporting standard therefor.
Objects An object of the invention is to provide an improved telescopic supporting standard for display sheets which will be so constructed that. the several members of the standard 7 may be housed within each other, and a roll of a display sheet rolled and housed within the inner member for mailing or for facilitating the storing of thesame.
Another object of the invention is to provide a telescopic supporting standard'and a display sheet roll which may be stored within the standard when not on display and which will be provided with spaced cross pieces carrying attaching clips for positively engaging the upper and lower ends of the standard when in assembled position.
A further object of the invention is to provide an eiiicient and inexpensive display supporting standard which will house the display sheet when not in use, and will provide a braced supporting standard for displaying the same when desired.
Other objects will appear as the'description proceeds.
Drawings In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my invention Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved display device in telescoped position;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the display device showing the several parts partially withdrawn. 7
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the display device in assembled position;
Figure 4 is a rear elevation of the display device in assembled position;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 4, and
Figure 6 is a detail view of the supporting clip carried by the display sheet for securing'the same to the supporting standard. Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts; i 7
Description In carrying out my invention, I provide an outer barrel or hollow tubular member 1 having an oval locking opening 2 formed therein and adjacent one end thereof, and a similar member 3 of smaller diameter is received within the member 1. A barrel mem ber l, hereinafter called the bracing strut, is of a smaller diameter'than the member 3 and may be retained within the member 3 when the standard is in collapsed or knockeddown form.
The display sheet 5 will be rolled up when not on display, and will have spaced cross pieces 6 at the opposite ends thereof, all of which may readily be inserted within the member 4 for storing or while being shipped. Pivoted attaching clips 7 are secured to the cross pieces 6 and are adapted to engage the opposite ends of the supporting standard when in assembled position to positively hold the display sheet on the standard.
When it is desired to assemble the standard, the members 1 and 8 are distended until the inner end of the members 3 is about opposite the outer end of the locking opening 2, and the bracing strut i is placed at an angle to the member 1 with one end inserted within the opening 2. The member 3 is then permitted to drop down against the end of the member 4 within the opening 2, and the three members will bepositively supported in their proper assembled position.
The display sheet will then be unrolled and the, attaching clips 7 clipped over the upper and lower ends of the standard, as clearly illustrated in Figures 3, 4 and 5 of the drawings. It will thus be seen that an efiicient display device will be provided which will collapse into a small space when not in use, and may be assembled with no trouble when the display sheet is to be displayed.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
A display device as characterized comprising a plurality of hollow tubular members adapted to be nested one within the other in collapsed position of the device, two of said members being in slidable engagement one within the other and adapted to be slid to; an extended position thereby providing a supporting standard of greater length than either member alone, the outer of said two slidable members having an opening at substantially the lower end of the inner of said two members when in extended position a display sheet having means at opp.o-.. site ends. thereof for engagement. each with an end of the said standard and adapted to be held taut by extension of the standard, and means adapted to be inserted in said open-. ing for both retaining the standard extended, and acting as a prop to support the standard.
