UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE,
SAMUEL W. MILLS, OF KINGSVILLE, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLY-FANS.
specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,945, dated January 2, 1877; application tiled October 30, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that'I, SAMUEL W. MILLS, of Kingsville, county of Johnson, and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Fly-Fan, of which the following is a specification:
The accompanying drawing represents a sectional side elevation of my improved flyfan applied to a table.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. 4
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a table, and B a fan or fans, that are secured to a radial socket, 0, applied by a thumb screw to a suitable height on a vertical rod, D, that passes through a hole in the table. The lower square end of rod 1) fits into the corresponding recess of the shaft a of a double pulley, E, which revolves vertically in supports of the table. A cord, F,
passes over pulley E, and then over a horizontal double pulley to the opposite ends of a treadle, G, pivoted centrally at the lower part of the table.
The working of the treadle revolves the fan and keep the. flies off the table, which also creates a breeze that fans those sitting at the table.
The treadle may be attached to any part of the table by merely changing the supporting parts of the pulley.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A table-fan operated by a centrally-pivoted shaft connected with a centrally pivoted treadle, the said treadle being made to rotate the shaft through two double pulleys, E E, arranged in different planes, and a cord, F, whose two ends are attached to the opposite ends of treadle, as shown and described.
