This invention relates to improvements in reenforced metal lath of the non-expanded type, and has for its general object to provide a metal lath structure of the socalled truss loop type embodying a novel combination and relative arrangement of features designed to impart longitudinal and transverse stidness to the lath and at ,the same time to provide effective keying formations to retain theplaster upon the lath. More particularly, the object of the invention is to incorporate the desirable features of the so-called truss-loop type of metal lath in a metal lath sheet of corrugated, ribbed or channeled form, whereby the sheet stiffem'ng and reenforcing edectiveness of the truss loops are enhanced by reason of the corrugated nature of the sheet which results in a novel arrangement of the truss loops relative to one another, fand whereby the stiftening effectiveness of the alternate ribs and channels of the corrugated sheet is enhanced bythe truss loops which are fo-rmed in said ribs and channels. Y
With the foregoing and otherv objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of Vfeaturesas will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in thel different views Figure 1 is an outer face view of a section of metal lath fabricated in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is an inner face View of a section of the lath.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of a section of the lath. y y
Figure l is a longitudinal section -on the line 4 4 of Figure 1. Figure 5 is a transverse section on the line 5-5 of Fig-1; and 1 -Figure 6 is a view similar toFig. 5 illustrating an alternative embodiment `of the invention. 1
Referring to the drawings in detail, it `will Vbe observedthat the present lath consists essentially of Aa bodyy Aor base A' of sheet metal? suitably bent to provide a plurality of pari allel ribs 10 anda depression'll between each adjacent pair `lof'said ribs, said ribs and said depressions being continuous longitudinally of thebody or base A and preferably being of considerably greater width than depth.
Thus, basically, the present lath consists of a corrugated metal sheet composed of alter-v nate relatively wide ribs and relatively wide depressions therebetween extending continui ouslyV longitudinally of the sheet with the bottoms of the depressions lyingin a common plane and the,y topsof the ribs lying inanother common plane parallel to' andispac'ed outwardly `with respect to the `'plane of theV bottoms ofthe'depressions.' j
" Along the topof each rib 10v adjacentto each side thereof is lformed anoutwardly di rected ribI stiening bead 13, `whileconnect ing these beads at longitudinally spaced -in-f tervals are transverse ribs or beads'll.V Thus, the top of each rib '1,0 is divided byy the transverse ribs or' beads 14 into Va `plurality of plaster seats 15 each of'whiclnin accordance 'i with the invention, is longitudinally slitted adjacent to the beads 13, '13, respectively, as
'indicated at 16, and has the 4,metal between said slits pressed together and arched outwardly to vprovide a so-called truss'. loop V17 the characteristics of which are well known in theart. p Y Y l In a similar manner, the bottom of each depression 11i is formed at longitudinally spaced intervals withr outwardly directed transverse ribs or beads 18, and'between each adjacent pair of these ribs or beads the Vmetal of the body or base A is longitudinally slitted adjacent tothe side walls of the-depressions and, betweenvsaidslits, is pressed" together to provide an voutwardly directed arched truss loop 19.
Preferably,`the ribs or beads llrof the vribs ,Y
10 are disposed in alinement transversely of the b'odyjor base A and midway between the thehinherent rigidity` and strength ofthe structure afforded by the ribs 10VV with their vtruss loops 17 disposed in a plane spaced outwardly with respect to the plane of the botf toms Vof the depressions 11 and their truss loops 19 is increased and the final result is a metal lath fabrication possessed of maximum' strength and stin'ess both longitudinally and transversely so that any danger of same buckling or partaking of a wave motion when plaster is being applied thereto is substantially eliminated.
Instead of the truss loops 17 'being formed to extend outwardly from the plaster seats 15, said truss loops obviously may b e directed inwardly from said plaster seats as indicated at 17a in' Fig. 6 of the drawings, in ,which 'Y event the*k outermost portionsof said truss loops may lie within, or substantially within,`
the planeof the bottoms of the depressions 11 with .the result that the lath structure, considered 'as an entirety, and in all other respects'a duplicate of the lath structure shown in Figs. 1 to 5, will be of materially less over all thickness than the lath structure of said Figsl to 5.
'Without further description itl thoughtl that the features andadvantages of the in- Y vention -will be readily 'apparentto those skilled in the art, and'it will of coursebe understoodkthat 'changes in the form, proportion and ininor details of construction may be resorted to, withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention vand, scope of the apf` pended claims.V r
