The present invention relates to mouthpieces for cigars and cigarettes .and consists in the combinations and arrangements of elements hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the accompanying claims.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a device which will keep the cigarette dry and effectively prevent the nicotine and tobacco fibres from entering the mouth and which will not offer any inconvenience or hindrance to the pleasure of smoking. The article is, furthermore, of the utmost s1mplicity and in its use is absolutely concealed from view.

A further object is in having the article of such structure that it may be incorporated into the body of the cigarette or cigar during manufacture, or may equally well be designed as a separate and independent device to be conveniently applied to the cigarette at the time of smoking and thereafter removed and again used with other cigarettes at will.

It is further contemplated to produce an article of this character constructed of a single unitary piece and of such design that the same may be made in quantity production at small cost, to the end that the average smoker may have and carry several of the devices at all times ready for convenient use.

The devices shown herein are proposed as further improvements over the similar articles disclosed in my copending applications for U. S. Letters Patents, to wit:

Referring to the construction in further detail and wherein the same reference characters designate corresponding parts in the different figures, 10 represents an ordinary cigarette to the end 11 of which is adapted to be attached the device shown herein. This end of the cigarette is in no way altered whether the device be incorporated in the cigarette when made or applied thereto as a separate attachment. The article may be of large or small size accordingly as the smoker desires to puff lightly or inhale deeply and fully, as will be understoo At the end 11 of the cigarette is a disc-like piece 12 of relatively thin and non-inflammable material. Said disc-piece is formed with an integral portion or extension 13 of suitable length and having serrated edges 14 adapted to engage with the cigarette tobacco and hold the article in position when in sorted as shown in Figure l, and theendportion 15 of the member 13 is suitably pointed for convenient insertion and to avoid any mutilation of the cigarette body. It will be understood the article may be incorporated into the cigarette during the process of manufacture or separately attached thereto by the smoker and detached when the cigarette has been consumed.

The article, i. e. the discportion 12 and penetrating prong 13, is preferably made from any suitable fibre or non-inflammable material and is so designed that the same may be produced in large quantities and at small cost.

In the construction shown in Figure 1 the prong or penetrating part 13 joinsthe disc portion 12 adjacent the end thereof and is slightly bent so as to enter the cigarette to- 5 wards the center thereof when inserted. as

illustrated in Figure 3. V

In the construction shown in Figures 2 and 6 the disc-portion 15 is cut away as at 16 providing the prong portion 17 that centrally penetrates the cigarette tobacco as illustrated in Figure 2. In this design theside edges 14 of the prong portion are serrated as in Figures 1 and 5. The cut away portion 16 provides an appreciably wide opening for smoke to pass through the cigarette end, and this opening together with the several apertures v18 enables the device to function perfectly when in applied position. In like manner the disc 12 in Figure 1 is formed with a'plurality of apertures 18.

In the construction shown in Figures 7 and 8 the prong portion 19 of the disc 20 is disposed at relatively right angles to said discand penetrates the tobacco of the ciga-.

rette end 11 immediately adjacent the wrapper 21 thereof, as Shown in Figure 7. In all other respects the construction of the article, its manner of attachment and use are the same as described in Figures 1 and 2.

so In the arrangement shown in Figure 9 the disc 22 is cut at 16 as in Figure 6 to provide the tongue or prong (not shown) and in this instance the apertures or openings 23 and :24 are designed and arranged to simulate a hu man face.

, It is to be understood the invention is not limited to the details of construction here shown and described, as these may be Varied Widely without departing from the scope of the invention as defined by the claims.

\Vhat is claimed as new is:

1. A cigarette mouth-piece comprising a disc adapted to lie against the cigarette end and having an inwardly bent and integral 7 portion for penetrating the cigarette tobacco, said disc and penetrating portion being stamped from a fibrous sheet, substantially as set forth.

2. A cigarette mouth-piece comprising an apertured disc of fibrous material having an integral and inwardly bent portion adapted to penetrate the tobacco and hold said disc member against the cigarette end, said inwardly bent portion having serrated edges for the purpose set forth. 7
