This invention relates particularly to flexible curtain rods, such as are commonly formed from close wound coil springs.

The primary object is to provide a simple and effective means of attachment for connecting the flexible rod with the frame, or sash, as the case may be, to which the rod is to be applied.

The invent-ion is illustrated in a simple embodiment in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a broken sectional view, taken as indicated at line one of Fig. 2, showing the improved construction applied to a sash or frame; Fig. 2, a broken elevational view of the same; Fig. 3, a broken detailed view, partly in section, showing a member having screw connections with the coil-spring; Fig. 4, an elevational View of a slight modification; and Fig. 5, a plan View of the member shown in Fig. 4.

If desired, the portion 3 may also be swaged, as shown, to make it more flexible.

The screw-eyes are shown connected with a sash or frame D.

The member B is formed from a flat strip of spring-metal. It has a screw-portion 1 formed at its edges with grooves 1 of proper pitch to form a screw-thread; a stop-portion 2; and a hook portion 3 consisting of a strip of reduced width having a portion 3 bent back to form an elongated loop. The extremity of the portion 3 is curved under, as indicated at 3 The curvature is such as to enable the tongue-portion 3 of the hook to enter the eyelet, or to be removed from the eyelet, at will. That is, there is sufiicient curvature, or bevel, between the end portion of the tongue and the adjacent shanleportion to enable the tongue to be sprung when the eyelet is to be entered or removed.

It is a feature of the invention that the screw-eye is so connected with the connector B that the complete curtain-rod can be shipped as a unit, without danger of loss of Serial No. 556,287.

parts; and it is then possible to disconnect the eyelet and apply it to the sash or frame after which the member B can be connected with the eyelet.

In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5,

B is a connector made from round wire instead of flat wire. By a suitable swaging operation, one end of the wire is flattened as indicated at 4, and an intermediate portion is swaged still more and thus made wider to form a stop-portion 5. The remaining portion is suitably bent to form the spring-hook 6. The portion 4 is threaded at its edges, as indicated at 4*. In each construction, the threaded shank is screwed into the wire coil until the extremity of the wire of the coil abuts against the stop-portion of the connector. This prevents the coil from jamming, and the connector may be readily unscrewed. Thus, it is possible to cut off a portion of the coil, where a shorter rod is desired.

The construction described is simple and highly effective for the purpose. The inventlon provides a rod equipped with connectors and screw-eyes which can be shipped as a unit without danger of loss of parts.

The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, but the appended claims should be construed as broadly as permissible, in view of the prior art.

What I regard as new, and desire to Secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A device of the character set forth, comprising: a coil-spring; a screw-eye; and a connector having screw connections with said spring and permanent, but detachable connection with said screw-eye.

2. A device of the character set forth, comprising: a coil spring rod; a screw-eye; and a connector having threaded connection with said coil spring and having spring-hook connection with said screw-eye, permanently, but detachably connecting the connector and screw-eye.

3. In a device of the character set forth: a coil-spring rod; and a connector having a threaded shank engaging convolutions of said coil-spring and having also a resilient substantially closed hook portion.
