The fmain-object of this invention is to 'provide Aa"'typewriter stand or table having v"shelves whic'h 7may:beic nluiclrly erected and when lerected' are rigid and secure.; and also 5 which may be easily collapsedan'dwlienv col- "lapsed' is veryf compact. y
A further object is tolprovide aA structure having these V`advantages whiclris economical to produce and very strong and rigid, being m largely formed of metal.
e Fig.r2 is an elevation of the opposite side of the table with the shelves erected, one pair of legs being partially broken away.
Fig. 3 is a. vertical section on line 3*-8 of 'l 25 1ig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view in section on line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view partially in section showing details of one of the shelf supports.
Fig. 6 is a detail section on line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
In the embodiment of my invention illustrated the top 1 is formed of sheet metal having a recessed central portion with a facing Y .3"5 2 of linoleum or likematerial arranged there in. The legs 3 are formed of tubular material connected in pairs by cross pieces 4 secured to the under side of the top.
I provide shelves 5 and 6 and the shelf 5 is mounted so that it is supported in a plane above the top of the table when erected, while the shelf 6 is supported in the plane of the top.
Each of these shelves is provided with sup- 5 porting struts 7 of bail-shape, their cross pieces 8 being secured to the under sides of the shelves by means of th-e clips 9. The struts have laterally turned pivots 10 at the ends of their arms which are engaged in holes on f5 the inner sides ofthe pairs of legs.

A`My improved table or stand is simple and economical in structure and at the Sametime is neat @and attractivefin appearance. Thc shelves may be quickly erected or collapsed and when erected are very rigidly supported.
vHaving thns'described my` invention what 2.11530 I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: f
l. The combination with a stand or table comprising legs and a top, of a shelf, a bailshaped strut having its arms pivotally mounted on a pair of the legs and `its. cross portion pivotally secured to the under side of said shelf, links pivotally secured to the edges of the shelf adjacent its inner end and having bayonet slots at their inner ends, said top having laterally projecting studs with which said slots may be engaged forsupporting said shelf in erected position, said top having rests with which the inner edges of said links engage when the shelf is erected, and a'coiled spring arranged on the cross portion of ysaid strut with one end of the spring secured thereto, the other end of the spring terminating in an arm engaging the shelf, said spring acting to urge the inner end of said shelf downwardly when the shelf is erected and to .support the shelf in upright position when the shelf is collapsed.
2.l The combination with a stand or table comprising legs and a top, of a shelf, a baiL shaped strut having its arms pivotally mounted on a pair-of the legs and its cross portion pivotally secured to the under side of said shelf, and links pivotally secured to the edges ofthe shelf adjacent its inner end and having bayonet slots at their inner ends,
said top having laterally projecting studs with which saidslots maybe engaged for supporting said shelf in erected position,
' said top having rests with which the inner `edges of said links ,engage when the shelfis erected.
3. The combination withv ra stand or'table comprising legs and a top, of a shelf, a bailshaped strut having 'its arms pivotally mounted on ajpair of the legs and its cross portion pivotally secured to the under side 'of said shelf, links secured to the edges of the shelf adjacent its inner end and having comprising legs and a top, of a shelf, a strut having arms pivotally mounted on a pair of the legs and pivotally secured to the under side of'said shelf, and links slidably secured to the edges of the shelf adjacent its inner end and having slQts at their outer ends, said top having studsy with which said slots may be engaged for supporting said shelf in erected position.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
