Application filed rirao,
This invention relates to pressing, machines and particularlyto work The object of the invention in'this case is to provide means for holding the-work, on
the bed of a pressing machine with the work holding means arranged to clamp the work in different positions and to provide stretching devices which are beyond the bed and which I may be brought into play to stretch different parts of an article over the. face of the bed..
For example, the present invention is deable manipulatlnghandle .12 and beyond this signed for the general utility in laundry work where various articles must be held and where some parts must be stretched. The invention ,16 secured. to the clamping band-.17.. The
is particularly adaptable to machines for certain types of laundry work where shirts are ironed and where the press is not provided with a neckband former or clamp.
The various features of the invention. will be brought out in the following description,-
drawings and claims.
Referring to the drawings,Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a press provided with the invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a por-. tion of the board or bed showing one of the clamping devices; Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same part; Fig. 4 is a detail view show-, ing the swivel connection of the clamping" band to the frame indicating the adjustment. of the tension on the band as well as the tensioning means for holding the band in its diflerent positions; Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the connection of the band to the, frame at the front of the machine; and Fig. is a view partly in section and partly in elevation showing one of its stretching devices.
In the embodiment shown in the drawings, 1 represents the press main frame supporting a work table 2 above which is the board or bed 3 having a reduced end 4 for convert ience of use in various places such as, for instance, supporting portions of the front of a shirt adjacent the neokband as shown in Fig. 1. Cooperating with this bed isa heated ironing chest 5 having a reduced forward portion 6 cooperating with the portion v 4:. The bed and head are matched in the sense that they are coextensive in area and cooper ating in contour of their ironing faces. The

. Extending from the rear brackets 7 and- 8 adapted to receive the. clamping frame. having its cross member 9 supported in the brackets and a front up standing arm 10 and a rear upstanding arm 11. These arms are beyond the front and rear edges of the boardso as to swing clear there- The front 10 is provided suitaisuitable eye 13 receiving the shank 141ming a swivel eye 15 connected to a clevis block shank 1%]: is headed over at 18 so as to hold the of'the-band 17 andits connected partj at this 22 which in turn is pivoted toaclevisblock 23 secured 'to the other end. of the band 17...
Engaging the threaded shank 21 is a thumb and check nut structure indicated at 2 1 and adapted to engage a spring 25;inserted"being down and secured to the bracket 8. at the screw eye 30. v This spring, as shown in Fig. 3,
passes to the left of the axis of the cross mem her 9 of the clamping frame whenthe clamp in the left position. As it is moved to the right, this springcrosses the axisofthis same cross member 9 andpasses beyond the same to the ri ht so that it willhold the clamping band .tigtly'upon the work on the bed in .Secured to the work board or anyother ii e r e wire i underside of the bed pair of transversely arranged front and :parts together and yet permit afree swivel I suitablesupport beyond theend of the iron-.
.ing board,'preferably the reduced end 4, are stretching devices and they comprise pref:
erablyaspring wire support-or core 3 l having an eye secured to the work board by a suitable bolt structure 32 and extending upward through a coil spring 33 which is wound in what might be termed solid formation so that it possesses some more or less rigid supporting characteristic. This spring is longer than the core wire 31 and at its upper end is screwed or otherwise secured in a socket 34 carrying across pin or screw 35 adapted. to receive the eye 36 of a spring clamp. comprising opposed thumb and finger portions 37 and crossing jaws 38 adapted to be snapped onto the edge of a garment beyond the end of the board to create a pull 'or 'st'retch. Two of these are shown, one near the forward "edge oitthe board and one near 'the rear edge so that they may bemanipulated in the most handy fashion to stretchthe garment as de sired. By reason of their arrangement and mounting, they stand up in ready position for access to the "operator and are extremely effective in'producing the stretching oper- 'ation.
Tn *use the operator may use the clamp in any desired manner throwing it from one side to the other and thereby clamping articles infthe best'way possible according to the treatment they are toireceive. He may also sides'thereof, a clamping strap swivelled in prising a threaded shank carried by the end sci-"the strap, an-eye on a frame side arm for recelvmg sa1d shank, a wing nut on said shank, aHCl a spr ng :surroun d-mgrsaid threaded shank between said win-g nrrctzand the side arm. r In testimony signature.
