Description

May 3, 1932. M. J. A. REBILLET 1,857,004
APPARATUS FOR FEEDING LIQUID FUEL T0 INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES Filed July 6, 1928 Patented May 3, 1932 PATENT OFFICE mCEL JOSEPH AGHILLE REBILLE'I, OF LYON, FRANCE APPARATUS FOR FEEDING LIQUID FUEL T INTERIKAL OOMIBUSTION' ENGINES Application filed July 6, 1928, Serial No. 290,722, and in France July 11, 19 27.
The object of the invention is to provide in a fuel supply system having a constant level fuel tank feeding a fuel delivery pump supplying fuel to the delivery conduit of the system, a device for maintaining a constant level in said constant level tank.
The invention consists in the provision of amain fuel reservoir below the constant level tank, a supplementary fuel feed conduit tapm ping from the fuel delivery conduit, an overflow conduit from the constant level tank to the main fuel reservoir, an uptake conduit leading from the bottom of the said main fuel tank, and delivering to the constant level tank ejector nozzles at the delivery end of said supplementary fuel feed conduit issuing to the delivery end of the uptake conduit and forming therewith an ejector delivering to the constant level tank.
The invention is illustrated diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings showing the device applied by way of example to the fuel supply tank of an internal combustion.
engine. Referring to the drawing 1 designates a constant level fuel tank delivering by a pipe 2 to the inlet of a centrifugal pump 4 driven off an internal combustion engine 3 by transmission gear 5. the discharge 6 of said pump being connected to its inlet by a pipe 7 which forms a circuit to which is connected a pipe 9 having at its discharge end a nozzle 10 from which'the fuel is injected by the pump into the induction conduit 11 of the engine. It is desired to keep the liquid in tank 1 level with the outlet orifice of the jet 10, such level being indicated at 8-8. Disposed below the constant level tank 1, and communicating with the latter by an overflow pipe 12 is a mainreservoir 13. To the bottom of the reservoir 13 is connected an uptake pipe 14 which at its upper end discharges into the tank 1. A supplementary fuel feed pipe 15 is connected to the delivery pipe 6 of the pump so that it taps said pipe 6, and the disc arge end of said pipe 15 is provided with nozzles 16, 16 which are disposed inside the delivery end of the pipe 14, the latter and the nozzles 16, 16 constituting an ejector whereby liquid is drawn up the pipe 14 and discharged into the tank 1 in proportion to the amount of liquid withdrawn from said tank 1. By this means tie level of the liquid in tank 1 is constantly maintained. 17 designates a fuel control valve in the pipe 9.
It will be understood that although the in- 5 5 vention has been described in connection with a fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine, its application is not limited thereto, but may be applied to an fuel feeding system in which a constant uel level is desirable.
What I claim as my invention and desireto secure by Letters Patent of .the United States is 1. In a fuel supply system having a con- 5 stant'level fuel tank and a fuel delivery pump supplying fuel to the delivery conduit of the "system, a device for maintaining constant level in the constant level tank comprising a main fuel reservoir below the constant level tank, a supplementary fuel feed conduit tapping from the fuel delivery conduit, an overflow conduit from the constant level tank to the -main fuel reservoir, an uptake conduit leading from the bottom of the said main fuel tank and delivering to the constant level tank, ejector nozzles on delivery end of said supplementary fuel feed conduit issuing to the delivery end of the uptake conduit and forming therewith an ejector, delivering to said constant level tank.
2. In a fuel supply system having a constant level fuel tank and a centrifugal fuel delivery pump supplying fuel to'the delivery conduit of the system, a device for maintaining constant level in the constant level tank comprising a main fuel reservoir below the constant level tank, a supplementary fuel feed conduit tapping from the fuel delivery conduit, an overflow conduit from the con.
stant level tank to the main fuel reservoir, an
uptake conduit leading from the bottom of the said main fuel tank and delivering to the constant level tank,- ejector nozzles on deliv- 5 ery end of said sup lementary fuel feed conduit issuing to the delivery end of the uptake conduit and forming therewith an ejector, delivering to said constant level tank. 7
In witness whereof I have signed this specification;
ARCH. JOSEPH ACHILLE REBlLLl-IT.
