Description
May 3, 1932. H. E. CARSEY MEMORIAL CONTAINER Filed June 13-, 1930 Buventot HARRY E.CARSEY 813% I M (Ittorncgj Patented May 3, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HARRY EDVIARID CARSEY, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR 'IO AULDS INCORPORATED,
OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, A
MEMORIAL Application filed June 13,
The object of this invention is to provide a device for containing and preserving a memoir, memorial or data in respect of a deceased person about to be interred or put .3 away in a mausoleum.
The invention is embodied in the example herein shown and described the features of novelty being finally claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a container according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line IIII Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the roll of material 5 containing the message or memoranda removed.
Fig. l illustrates the manner of securing the container.
In the views 5 designates a tubular case or receptacle closed at one end and open at the other. The open end is internally threaded and secured by solder or otherwise to the inner wall of the receptacle 5 and just beyond the screw thread is a sealing ring 6 of lead or other metal or material adapted for the purpose.
The closure for the threaded open end of the case consists of a cap having a reduced and externally threaded portion 7 adapted to the internal threads of the case. The larger or inner end of the cap forms a shoulder and is knurled as shown at 8 to facilitate turning it into the threaded end of the case.
The inn-er end 9 of the cap is of smaller diameter than the threaded portion of the cap and is very slightly tapered so as to require some pressure to insert it into the sealing ring 6. The effect of this pressure is not only to produce a tight sealing at the small end of the cap but also by the reaction to put the threads of the case and cap into close contact and therefore improve the sealmg.
The cap has a longitudinal bore or socket 10 into which the end of a small roll of parch-- ment 11 containing inscribed thereon the memoranda or other matters desired by the I relations or friends of the deceased.
Near the closed end of the case is secured by solder or otherwise one end of a strip of CORPORATION OF OHIO CONTAINER 1 930. Serial No. 460,924.
The hands of a deceased person are customarily laid on the body, and the device of my invention will appropriately be placed with the ring on the little finger with the case substantially concealed by the hand so that the ring which can be made of gold, platinum or other precious metal will appear like an ordinary ornamental ring.
Metals adapted to withstand the ravages of gases, vapors and moisture can be employed in the manufacture of the device so that the parchment and its data on interior of the case will be preserved for a long period of time and far outlast external monuments identifying the interred.
The forms and materials of the parts can be changed without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the kind described, a case having an internal sealing ring and a threaded end, a closure for the case threaded to engage the thread of the case and provided with a reduced end to engage the sealing ring.
2. In a device of the kind described, a case having an internal sealing ring and a threaded end, a closure for the case socketed to receive an inscribed roll or other object, said closure having a thread to engage the thread of the case and a taper to engage the sealing ring.
3. In a device of the kind described, a case and a closure therefor to contain an inscribed roll or other object, and an external ring on the case to engage the device with the hand of the deceased said ring consisting of a strip of metal adapted to be bent to vary the size of the opening thereof.
l. In a device of the kind described, a case and closure therefor, said case to contain an inscribed roll or other object, and a flexible external ring-forming strip on the device to encircle a finger of the hand of the deceased.
5. The herein described memorial container for a deceased person including a casing having a body provided with an internal thread and an internal sealing ring at one
