4The particular class or type of ticket deliverymechanism to which the presentinvention andPatent No. ,1,750,196 relate is characterized bythe fact that the tickets are issued by and during the operation of `the mechanism to restore its parts to an initial"7 position after those parts have been actuated `to move the same to an operating position as a result of a movement of any ticket key by an operator.
Ticket delivery mechanism which is operated by and during the restoring movement of its parts to an initial position does not require its parts to be manufactured or constructed to close limits; does not require accurate clearances to be observed during assembly' and is not subject to inaccurate operation due to wear and continued use of the mechan: sm.
The accurateoperation of yticket delivery mechanism of `this class is only dependent upon the accurate relative location of a number of cams `with respectto one another on a single master cani shaft, which cams control the entire operation of theticket delivery mechanism.` y
Moreover, if a plurality of associated ticket keys are accidentally moved simultaneously, the mechanism will deliver a number of tickets correspondingto the key of the smallest denomination moved, so that the accidental simultaneous movement of a plurality of ticket keys can never causeia mistaken issuanceof a larger number of tickets t-han desired.
` `The machine may, however,issue a smaller number of tickets than desired due to such accidental improper operation, but such a mistake can readily be corrected by a second operation of the machinejto deliver siuiicient tickets to make up for the mistaken smaller number of tickets previously issued by accidental improper movement of a plurality of ticket keys.
The ticket delivery mechanism shown in Patent No. 1,750,196 is released from a locked initial7 position by manually operating a ticket key, after which the mechanism is driven by `a continuously rotating motor driven shaft to move the parts to an operating position and to restore the parts to the initial position, at which initialy position the continuously rotating shaft is operatively disconnected from any driving connection with the other parts of the mechanism, and the remaining parts of the mechanism come `to rest until operation of the mechanism is V quently issued.
On the other hand, there are times when it is necessary to issue successive groups of tickets as speedily as possible, for instance, when there is a long line of persons Waiting at a ticket booth to purchase tickets. Under such circumstances, it is most desirable that the motor shaft be operating continuously so that a fraction of a second of time may be gained in performing each ticket issuing operation. and so that a continued making and breaking of switch contacts will not injure the contacts.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide ticket delivery mechanism of the restoring movement type with a motor switch which may be manually operated to control continuous operation of the motor, or which is operated to start the motor by movement of the ticket key to supply power to the motor to carry out one particular ticket issuing operation only.
Moreover, it is a further object of the present invention to provide one switch of the above character for the ticket delivery mechanism, Whose ope-ration may be selectively or simultaneously controlled by any one of a plurality of identical ticket delivery sections which may constitute one installation driven by a single motor.
Tickets which are to be issued from a ticketV issuing machine are usually supplied in long continuous .strips and ity is most desirable to sever such strips at the proper place between successive tickets. For' this reason, it is desirable to positively control the operation of the ticket delivery mechanism feed roll so that it will always stop at a position which will enable the ticket.

Moreover, it is desirable to lock the ticket feed roll against rotary movement in any direction when the same is at rest so that the feed roll will not be accidentally moved at a time when a ticket strip is being threaded in cooperative relation around the feed roll.
`Feed rolls usually having counting or registering mechanism associ ated therewith which records all movement of the feed roll, so that an accidental movement of the feed roll may register the issuance of a ticket which has not been actually issued, if the feed roll isy not locked at all timesexcepting only when one or more tickets are being issued.
It is therefore a further object of the present invention to provide ticket delivery mechanism with stop means for positively stopping rotation of the feed roll at a predetermined place so that the feed roll will not be overthrown by inertia of its own movement or movement of other parts, and so that one or more tickets fed by the feed roll from a continuous strip of tickets will be severed at the proper place only.
Moreover, it is a further object of the present invention, to provide ticket delivery mechanism with means for positively locking the-feed roll against movement at all times, excepting only when the feed roll is being operated to actually issue one or more tickets.

supplied with shears which are positively mechanically operated only in a shearing direction, and which depend upon spring or other such means for restoring the shear blade to an inoperative position. It frequently happens that the shear blade so operated may become tight or be jammed in its guide due to an accumulation of ticket cuttings, which may cause the entire machine to be jammed; and that the shear blade normally remains open. f
It is therefore a further object of the pres-v ent invention to overcome these diiiic-ulties in shearoperation by providing positive niechanical means for operating the ticket shear in both directions so that the shear will only Vbe operated at a time when a ticket strip has beenfed tothe shear for being cut off and so that the shear remains closed excepting when carrying out the shearing operation.
t is a further object of the present invention to provide a locking device for simultaneously locking every ticket key of either one or a plurality of banks or ticket delivery 'sections in inoperative position so that an unauthorized person will be unable to operate the ticket delivery mechanism.v
The ticket delivery mechanism shown in Patent No. 1,750,196 may accidentally be put out of order so as to prevent a restoring movement of its parts, if a ticket key of small denomination is depressedy during the operation of the mechanism following the depression of a ticket key of large denomination.
It is therefore a further object of the present invention to provide means for preventing Adepression of a ticket key of small denomination during a ticket issuing operation actuated by depression of a key of large denomination in the same ticket delivery section. v
The ticket delivery mechanism of the particular construction which comprises the present invention has a driving connection made or broken between the motor shaft and master camshaft through the medium of a mutilated It is most desirable that the mechanism parts be under absolute control at all times and that the various parts be restored to a fixed predetermined initial position after each ticket delivery operation.
' It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide'a mutilated gear construction in which when one tooth of the mutilated gear adjacent the mutilated portion thereof is disconnected from the driving gear, the drive end of the next tooth on the other Y side of' the mutilated portion is in position to become engagedv with the driving gear upon the slightest rotation of the mutilated gear shaft.

'L Each key 44 is provided with a stem 45 which 4is slidably mounted in the bracket 46 secured by any suitable means to the section side walls 2O Or 20a.
The lower end of each key stem 45 is provided with a notch 47 and a lateral sho-ulder 48 for purposes which will be hereinafter described. A side .plate 49 is provided for each bracket 46 for retaining the key stems 45 against sidewise movement, and the side plate 49 is preferably provided with an aperture 50 adjacent. each key stem, for the insertion vof avfriction washer 51, spring pressed at 52,
for frictionally maintaining the key stems 45 at any position to which they may be moved.
The springs 52 are retained in their respective apertures 50 by a cover plate 53. The ends 54 of each of the key stems 45 are presented toward an actuating member 55, pivoted at 56, and provided with a cross bar 57 extending` directly underneath the ends 54 y of the key stems' 45. rlhe actuating member is provided with a linger 58 extending from the cross bar 57 in a direction opposite to the pivotal mounting 56.
The finger-58 ordinarily rests on the top end of the master key 59, preferably slidably mounted in a bracket 60, carried by the section side wall 2O or 20a, and the master key is normally maintained in any position to which it is moved by spring actuated friction means 61 carried by the bracket `60.
The lower endportion 59 of the master key 59, is normally locatedin the position above the cam 37, (Fie. 6) while a finger 62, provided with laterally extending lug 63, projects forwardly from the lower end of the master key 59.
The lug 63 is located in a position to be engaged by the cam 38 for raising the master key, and to abut a similar lug 64 projecting from the cam 39 when the master key is in raised position 8). v
The feed roll starting gear segment 65 is preferably integrally formed on one endof a bell crank lever 66, pivotally mounted at 67, on the shaft 68, and provided at its other end with a roller 69 maintained in contact with the cam 40 by the spring 70, which normally urges the bell crank 66 to rotate in a clockwise direction (Fig. 2).v
An arc-shaped member 71 projects from the upper end of the bell crank lever 66 in a direction opposite to the gear segment 65, and is normally disposed at the side of the notches 47 formed in the lower ends of the ticket key stems 45, the'outer end of the arc-shaped member 71 being offset at 72, for a purpose which will be later described.
The gear segment meshes with a sleeve gear l7 3, rotatably mounted on the shaft 74, to which is keyed the feed roll 75. A ratchet wheel 76 is likewise keyed to the shaft 74, while its controlling pawl 77 is pivotally mounted at 78 on a mounting plate 79 fixed to the hub 80 of the gear 73. A ratchet Ywheel 81, cooperating with a spring pressed arm 82, is also fixed to the shaft 74 to prevent rotation of the shaft 74 in a. counter-clockwise direction (Fig. 2). .y
A counter gear 83 is also iiX'ed to the shaft 74v and drives the counter mechanism 84 through gearing 85. The counter mechanism 84 registers the number of tickets issued or delivered by any particular ticket issuing section.
The ticket feed rO-ll is provided with a plurality of radial projections 86 spaced circumferentially equidist-ant apart, and the projections 86 are adapted to engage openings or apertures 87, provided in a continuous ticket strip 88, which may be threaded through a guideway 89 opening adjacent the feed rOll 7 5 and communicating with any suitable storage place for the continuous ticket strip 88, preferably located below the ticket delivery machine at 90 1).
rlhe shaft 74, likewise has Xed theretoy a stop ratchet wheel 91 which cooperates with the end 92, of a lever 93, pivotally mounted at 94, on the shaft 95, and having its other end 96 cooperating with the outer surface of the cam 43. The lever 93 is normally urged to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction 2) by the spring 97. The lever 93 and cooperating ratchet wheel 91 normally maintain the shaft 74 against clockwise rotation (Fig. 2), excepting only when the lever end 92 is disengaged from the ratchet wheel 91 by the action of the outer cam surface of the cam 43 on the lever-end 96.

Meanwhile, the finger 58 engages the upper end of the master key 59, and moves the master key downward, so that the lugs 63 and 64 become disengaged to permit rotation of of the shaft 36 causes the gears 35 and 41 to become nieshed, so that motor driven rotation of the ratchet gear 35, continues to rotate the gear 41 in a clockwise direction.
As the shaft 36 rotates, the cam 40 presents its relieved surface to the roller 69, so that ther spring will rotate the bell crank 66 in a clockwise direction until the notch 71a of the arc-shaped member 71 engages Vthe lower end of the depressed key stem 45, as shown Vin Fig; 12.
Meanwhile,therack 65 rotates the gear 73,
- mounting plate 79, and controlling pa-wl 77 in a counter-clockwise direction (Fig. V2) freely on the shaft 74.
Meanwhile, the cam 43 moves the end 96 of the lever 93 upward, to cause itsother end 92 to be disengaged from the ratchet wheel 91. At the same time, the internal cam surface 103 moves the lever 98 to raise the link' 104, for raising the shear blade 106, to permit Y the ticketsto be issuedv to pass between the shear blade V106 and its guide plates V109 and 110. l Y
As the shaft 36 continuesto rotate,the high surface of the cam 40 engages the roller 69, to
t rotate thebell crank 66Vin a counter-clockwise direction, for restoring the same to its initial position, from the operating position to which it was swung by its spring70. As the bell crank 66 moves its rack 65 to the left (Fig. 2), the gear 73 and mounting plate l 79 are rotated in a clockwise direction, whereupon tlie controlling pawl l77y engages its ratchet wheel 76, to rotate the ratchet wheel 76, and the shaft 74 to which it is keyed, in a clockwise direction.
Meanwhile, the feedV roll 7 5 likewise keyed to the shaft 74, is rotated in a clockwise direction'to move the ticket strip 88 engaged Ythereby through the shear until two tickets Y have" passed beyond the shear blade. At the 35v same time, the gearing 83,' 85 causes the counter-mechanism 84 to register the fact that two tickets have been issued.
Just before the bell crank 66 has been restored to its initial position, because of e11- gagement of the roller 69 with a high part of the cam 40, before the feed roll ceases to rotate, the relieved outer cam surface of the cam 43 permits the spring 97 to move the lever 93 in a counter-clockwise direction, so that its end 92 engages the ratchet wheel 91 to prevent further clockwise rotation of the shaft 74. At this time, the cam surface 102 of the cam 43 moves the operating lever 98, to move the link 104 downward, so that the shear blade 106 severs the two tickets on the advanced end of theA ticket strip, from the ticket strip 88. Y j
Meanwhile, the two tickets which have been sheared, have issued out of the exit opening providedV in the'top 'plate 19 from beneath the pivoted door or cover 116 therefor, to a position where they may be picked up by the buyer. Y
At the time when the shear operates, the relieved portion of the cam 42 permits the lever 117 t-ovdrop downward t-o break theelectrical connection between the contacts 121 and 122,
Vso that the motor 21 will stop.
At the same time, the mutilated portion 41a of the gear'41 arrives at the position shown in Fig. 5, so that the driving connection between tlie gears 35 and 41 is disconnected.
Meanwhile, the cam 38 has engaged the lug 63 of the master key to positively raise the master key to the position shown in Fig. 14.
The master key in turn raises the actuating member 55, and the depressed key 44 back to the position shown in Fig. 14. rlhe key 44 and master key 59 will be maintained in such raised position vby the spring pressed friction means 51 and 61, respectively.
After the master key has been raised by the cam 38, the flug 63v thereof projects in the path of kthe lug 64 of the cam 39, so as to prevent further rotation of the shaft 36 until the master key is again depressed by a succeeding operation of one of the 'key tickets by the operator.
In the operation of the `mechanism above described, the motor 21 is started and stopped il# by 'peach ticket issuing operation. However, when it is desired to rapidly issue successive tickets, the motor isrun continuously by movingV the switch lever 124 to the position shown in dot-dash lines in Fig. 10, when an electrical connection is made between the contacts 121 and 122 without regard to, or without being affected by, the operation of the cam 42 and linger 117. When the motor lis operated continuously, thev gear 35 rotates l' continuously, and picks up the mutilated gear 41 immediately after any ticket key has been de ressed.

In a ticket delivery machine, ticket issuing and severing mechanism, actuating means for said mechanism, manually-operable movement limiting means for said actuating means, an associated masterr key controlled by said limiting means adapted to start and stop said actuating means, means for driving said actuating means, including a motor, a switch orthe motor, andimeans for operating the switch to start and stop the motor actuated by movement/'ot' the limiting means.
