Description

T. HANSEN FENCE TOOL April 26, 1932.
Filed Nov. 8, 1929 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 26, 1932 UNITED STATES THORVALD HANSEN, OF ST. ANSGAR, IOWA FENCE TOOL Application filed November 8, 1929. Serial No. 405,725.
This invention relates to a staple puller and fence repair tool the general object of the invention being to provide a shank having a number of holes therein and one end formed to engage the chuck of a bit so that by placing a wire in one of the holes, and rotating the tool by the brace, two parts of fence wire can be brought together by a repair wire, one end of the tool being pointed m s i that the device can be used for pulling staes. p This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the device in use for repairing a broken wire.
Figure 2 is a view of the device itself.
Figure 3 is an end view of the device.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4:4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is an enlarged View showing how a broken wire has its ends fastened together by a third wire with the tool. I
As shown in these views, the device comprises a shank A having a cylindrical portion 1 provided with a number of transverse holes 2, a reduced part 3 and a chuck engaging part 4 which terminates in a point 5. This point can be used for pulling staples by driving the point between the staple and the post. When the device is to be used as a fence repair tool, the part 4 is placed in the chuck part of a brace B. A loop 6 is formed in each end of the broken wire 7 and a small length of wire 8 has one of its ends fastened the tool is turned several times around the Wire 8 so as to twist the two portions of said wire together to fasten said Wire to the loop portions of the wire 7. Then the wire 8 is cut to separate that portion on the tool from the other portion.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features ofthe invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A fence tool comprising a cylindrical portion provided with a plurality of transversely arranged openings to permit a repair wire to be connected to said cylindrical portion at various points throughout the length thereof, said cylindrical portion having a reduced portion at one end and terminating into a tapering portion to provide a chuck engaging part having the end thereof pointed.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
THORVALD HANSEN.
