Umrnnn Smmnis PATENT OFFICE LUDWIG H. PIRRUNG AND MICHAEL ZIRBES, CF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAND CORN-SHELLERS.
Specification forming part cf Letters Patent N0. 185,575, dated December 19, 1876; application filed April 25, 1876.
T 0 all wlwm 11t mag; ooncern Be it known that we, LUDWIG H. PIRRUNG and MICHAEL ZIRBES, 0f Chicago, Cook couuty, Illinois, have iuvented a new and Improved Corn-Sheller, of whieh the following is a specification:
Figure l represents a side elevation 0f onr improve l corn-sheller, and Fig. 2 a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- Sp0mling parts.
Onr in vention relates to a simple, cheap, and efiective eorn-sheller; and consists of'a grooved plate, swinging toothed lever, and eonducting hood and spout, for conveying the shelled 00m1 to a snitable receptaele.
In the drawiug, A represents a cast-iron plate, that is supported in inclined position on suitahle lege, cast er otherwise attached to the plate, at such a height that a person may conveniently work the sheller when sitting 011 a chair. The platze A has a groove, B, 0f the size of the longitudinal halfisection 0f an ear 0t' c0rn, in which the ear is placed and made to rest againsc the closed lower end 0t groove, to be aeted upon by the lever C, that is piv- 0ted et 0ne end to the side 0f' the plate, and op-erated by a handle, C, ab the other end. 'lhe middle part of the lever C is made wider,
and provided with teeth a at the under side, that work 0 the corn fron1 Ehe ear.
The ear is held with the left. band, and turned while the lever is worked t0 and fr0 with the right band, until the c0rn is shelled oft. The corn is conducted downward along the slanting platze, conveyed 130 a sheet-metal t0p guard 0x hood, D, through an opening of the plate A 130 a b013t0n1 spout, E, and deliverecl int0 a snicable receptacle below the sheller.
The sheller works in a quick and perfect manner, and combines strength, cheapness, and dnrability, being mainly designed to supply the demand for a cheaper kind 0f comsheller.
Having thus described onr invention, we claiuu as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The eombination 0f plate A, having groove B, the lever C, having teth a, the hood D, and the spout E, all constructed and arranged as shown and deseribed.
