his vertically disposed rock shaft 5 has near its lower portion two-armed fork 6 in which rides depending pin 7 from plunger or bolt 8. In swinging the handle 3 counterclockwise, the rock shaft 5 is effective through the forked arm 6 to withdraw the bolt 8 from recess 9 in the barrel section of the gun, so that such section may be rocked on pivot, pin or hinge 10 relatively to the shaft 5. A used shell may be thus replaced by a new charge 11, and the barrel 1 rocked back into the assembled position with the frame 2.
The shell 11 is thus located as to its cap portion in the region of guide way 12 for firing member or pin 13. This member 13 has fixed thereon block 14 guided by yoke or bracket 15 fixed in the frame 2. This member 13 as extending from the block 14 and away from the barrel 1, has thereabout compression helical spring 16 abutting fixed bracket 1'? as an additional guide for the member 13. Unless held retracted, the spring 16 is effective to thrust the member 13 into firing position. The bolt 8 is normally in latched position as to the barrel section. This end is accomplished by plunger 18 acting against arm 19 of the rock shaft 5 upon the 1931. Serial no. 537,049.

To efiect retraction of the thrown firing member 13, the handle 3 is rocked counterclockwise, and one of the forks of the arm 6 engages projection 21 from the block 14. This efi'ects withdrawal of the member 13 from thefiring position in the guide way 12, and also puts the spring 16 under increased compression.
Pivot pin 22 fixed in the stock 2, has link 23 extending to hinge joint 24 with companion link 25 of the toggle linkage pair 23, 25. The link 25 has pivotal connection 26 with bracket or stem 27 fixed as a screw with the block 14.
When the links 23, 25, approximate alignment, the block 14 is in fully retracted position. This is a position for effectively locking the member 13 against firing throw so long as the thrusting action of the spring 16 may be taken up lengthwise of this toggle pair 23, 25, as in the region of the dead center position. The great force of the spring 16 is such that with the hinge pin 24 out of such aligned holding position, even slightly, the toggle is quickly broken and the firing throw occurs.
A stabilizer is provided against casual release of the member 13 by the toggle 23, 25. This stabilizer comprises plunger 28, normally thrust by helical spring 29 thereabout, out of pocketSO and toward the hinge 24.
Pivot pin 31 in the stock 2 mounts trigger arm 32 to protrude from the stock. Companion arm 33 of the trigger lever in the stock is acted upon by leaf spring 34 to hold the trigger in a normal position with terminal oifset 35 of this arm 33 holding the hinge pin 24 8 thrust of the plunger 28 to position the hinge pin 24 a distance beyond or above the dead center alignment. Conversely, adjustment in the reverse direction may approximate the hair-trigger delicacy. The stabilizer is the neutralizer against rough handling setting off the firing mechanism.
l/Vhat is claimed and it is desired tosecure by Letters Patent is:
1. Gun mechanism embodying a firing member, an actuator for the member, holding linkage for the member to resist'the actuator, and a trigger movable independently of the linkage and shiftable into position to engage and change the position of the linkage to be overcome by the actuator in giving the member a firing throw.
2. Gun mechanism embodying a firing member, an actuator for the member, a holding toggle for the member to resist the actuator, and a trigger movable independently of the toggle and shiftable into position to engage and change the position of the toggle to be overcome by the actuator in giving the member a firing throw.
3. Gun mechanism embodying a firing member, an actuator for the member, a holding toggle for the member to resist the actuator, said toggle having a pair of links, a stabilizer for the toggle in approximating alignment for the toggle links, and a trigger movable independently of the toggle and shiftable into position to engage and change the position of the toggle links to be overcome by the actuator in giving the member a firing throw.
4. Gun mechanism embodying a firing member, an actuator for the member, a holding toggle for the member to resistthe actuator, said toggle having a pair of links a stabilizer for the toggle including a plunger acting upon the links to approximate alignment for the toggle links, and a trigger movable independently of the toggle and shiftable into position to engage and oppose the stabilizer and change the position of the toggle links to be overcome by the actuatorin giving the member a firing throw.
5. Gun mechanism embodying a firing member, an actuator for the member, holding means for the member to resist the actuator, a trigger shiftable to change the position of the holding means to be overcome by the actuator in giving the member a firthrow, and externally accessible adjusting,
means for positioning the trigger relatively to the means. i
7. A firearm firing control toggle, and an independently movable relatively adjustable trigger operator therefor.
