Referring to `the-drawings, 1 designates a band or. anklet portion which is r adapted to flitiaroundfthe ankle of a wearer. may be made of material which is wider than the lower section 6 and sewed along the line 22 to provide a relatively large pocket 23 into which the lower section 6 telescopically fits as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 5. Fastening means 24 may be provided for holding the upper and lower sections together.

Instead of employing the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the upper section 5 may be made in a manner similar to thatl shown in Figs. 3 and 5, but not telescopically engaging each other. In Fig. 6 the section is shown abutting the section 6 as indicated at 25. The two sections may be fastened together by stitching or by fastening means 26 for holding the two sections together.

The upper section 5 is, therefore, movable vertically relative to the section 6' thereby permitting the leg extension 2 to be extended or retracted to accommodate socks of different length. However, stays of different sizes are required to reinforce the leg extension 2.

The anklet encircling band or web 1 may be provided with the usual sliding buckle 27 to make the band extensible or retractable so as to fit ankles of different sizes.

In practice, the garter is applied to the leg of a wearer and a sock 28 placed thereover.

f The leg extension 2 extends upwardly from the ankle encircling portion 1 with the kee er arranged inside of the sock. The clasp 1 is then passed over the top 29 of the sock and returned thereover and engaged with the button 19 of the keeper 18 for holding the sock in position.

The keeper 18, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, is not threaded through one of the strips of the upper portion in the manner shown in Figs. 2 and 4, but is fastened thereto by stitches 30 for maintaining it in proper position.

The invention provides an anatomic garter which is reinforced and which is preferably made in two sections. Each section is provided with a pocket portion into which a reinforcing stay is received. The upper portion is movable vertically relative to the lower portion so that socks of different lengths may be accommodated. Means are provided for holding the two sections together whether it be of the telescopic, the overlapping type, or the abutting type. The braces support the vertical leg extension to keep the leg extension from tilting. The ankle encircling band is provided with a clasp to provide for adjustment thereof. The garter is easy to wear as it does not bind the leg or strangle the blood streams. It is light in weight and may be readily and economically manufactured. n

I Changes may be made in the form, construction, and arrangement of the various parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and the right is hereby reserved to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the following claims.

The invention is hereby claimed as follows:

1. A garter comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, a lower section connected to said ankle encircling band and having a pocket therein, an upper section having a pocket therein, a reinforcing member arranged in said pockets, means for .holding the two sections together, a keeper fastened to the upper section, and a clasp cooperating with said keeper for holding a sock in position.`

2. A garter comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, a lower section connected to said ankle encircling band and having a pocket therein, an upper sec* tion having a pocket therein, a reinforcing member arranged in said pockets, means for holding the two sections together, a keeper fastened to the upper section, a clasp cooperating with said keeper for holding a sock in position, and a brace connected to the band and to a said section on each side of said section. l

3. A garter to be worn under a sock and comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, an upwardly extending" leg portion and comprising upper and lower sections, each of said sections being provided with a pocket, means arranged in said pockets for reinforcing the leg member, means for effecting adjustment of one section relative to the other section for making said' leg section extensible and reinforcing means connected to said upwardly extending portion and to said band on each side of said upwardly extending leg portion.

4. A garter to be worn under a sock and comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, an upwardly extending leg portion and comprising upper and lower sections, each of said sections being provided with a pocket. means arranged in each pocket for reinforcing the leg member, means for effecting adjustment of one section relative to the other section for making said leg section extensible, means for holding the two sections together, and reinforcing means connected to said band and inclining upwardly therefrom and connected to said lower section.

5. A garter comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, a lower section connected to said band and having a pocket provided therein, an upper section having a pocket therein into which the lower section extends. a reinforcing member arranged inside of each section, and a clasp and keeper fastened to one section for holding a sock in position.

6. A garter comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, a lower section connected to said hand and having a pocket provided therein, an upper section having a pocket therein into which the lower section extends, a reinforcing member arranged inside of each section, a clasp and keeper fastened to one section for holding a garter in position, and means for maintaining the two sections in proper position relative to each other.

7. A garter comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, a lower section connected to said band and having a pocket provided therein, an upper section having a pocket therein into which the lower section extends, one section being movable relative to the other to effect vertical adjustment to accommodate socks of different lengths, means connected to one of said sections for fastening a sock thereto, means for connecting the two sections together, and means for reinforcing said sections.

8. A garter comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, a lower section connected to said band and having a pocket therein, an upper section telescopica-ily engaging said lower section, means for reinforcing said sections, and means for effecting adjustment of said garter to accommodate socks of different lengths.

9. A garter comprising a band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, an upwardly extending leg portion fixed to said band, sock fastening means on said upwardly extending leg portion, and reinforcing meansV fastened to said band on each side of said upwardly extending leg portion and connected to said leg portion.

10. A garter comprising a fabric band adapted to encircle the ankle of a wearer, adjustment means on said band, an upwardly extending leg portion fastened to said band, sock fastening means connected to said upwardly extending portion and including a clasp and a keeper, flat fabric strips connected at their lower ends to said band and extending upwardly and diagonally therefrom and having their upper ends fastened to the leg extension portion a predetermined distance above the upper edge of said band and forming reinforcing braces for said upwardly extending leg portion.
