Description

KENNEDY. CUP LEATHER PACKING FOR PUMPS AND SYRIITGES. No. 185,329. Patented Dec. 12, 1876'.
UNITED STATES PATEN FFIGE.
THOMAS KENNEDYp OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO RICHARD HGOAMBRIDGE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUP-LEATHER PACKINGS FOR PUMPS AND SVRINGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,329, dated December 12, 1876; application filed November 15,1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THos. KENNEDY, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cup-Leather Packin gs for Pumps and Syringes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide a metallic re-enforcement for the cup-leather, by which a greater uniformity and reliability in its action is obtained.
Figure 1 shows in perspective a common syringe having a part of its casing broken away to bring to view its cup-leather packing with my improvement combined; Fig. 2, in perspective, a metallic cup, having a number of slits down its sides, to be hereafter explained.
A, the body; B, piston-rod 5 0 and D, male and female screws, with flanges, between which the cup-leather and the metallic cup are firmly clamped and placed under control of the piston-rod. row slits down its sides, 0 6. It is made by stamping it or spinning it up in the same shapeas the cup-leatherin which it is inclosed, and large enough to produce a slight outward pressure. When this cup is spun up its slits are conveniently cut with a saw. a, handle; I), cylinder-cap; o, packing-nut. Iclaim The metallic cup E, provided with narrow slits c 6 down its sides, and placed Within the cup-leather packing F, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
