Description
April 12, 1932. J. WEISINGER CITY LIMIT TAXIMETER Filed Sept. 20, 1928 INV NT R Jasep/r Wan /29% ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 12, 1932 UNITED STATES JOSEPH WEISINGER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY CITY LIMIT TAXIMETER Application filed September 20, 1928.
la means for registering up to a predetermined maximum tariff when the control flag is in one position and for registering unlimited tariff when the control flag is in an other position. 10,
Other and further objects, including certain features of construction and application, will appear in the specification and be pointed out in the appended claim reference being had to the accompanying drawings which show the preferred embodiment of my invention.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view of the device with stop mechanism in operation.
Figure 2 is a view of the device with stop mechanism not in operation.
Figure 3 is a view of the cam.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention 5 represents the outline of a taximeter, which is operated by a shaft 6, which is adapted to be driven by the ground wheel of the vehicle.
The shaft 6, communicates to the taXimeter operating plant situated behind the plate 7, which does not enter this invention.
The plant, however, is of the ordinary kind which effects as usual, the movement of a tariff indicating device 8, depending upon the distance traversed and other incidental charges.
In some cities there are ordinances which do not allow charges more than a set maximum charge, no matter how far you travel within the city limits.
In order to provide a taXimeter that prevents registering above a predetermined maximum amount, the tariff indicating device 8, is provided with a set of perforations 9, opposite the numerals 10.
A pin 11, is set in any perforation 9, opposite the number that will appear in the opening 1 in the face plate (not shown).
The taximeter is also provided with the ordinary control shaft 13. On one end of this shaft there is affixed the flag 14, and on the Serial No. 307,144.
other end above the plate, there is alfixed a mutilated plate or cam 15. The mutilated part is indicated by numeral 16.
The cam 15, has several significant designations as City limit Outside city and Vacant.
To a permanent part of the taXimeter, there is affixed a pin 17, on which an angular arm 18 oscillates. A spring 19, is attached to the arm 18, at 20 and to a permanent part of the meter 21.
It should be noted that the spring 19 causes the angular portion of the arm 18 to travel on the periphery of the cam 15 and the movements of the arm are dependent on the configuration of the cam.
In operation, when the flag 14 is in the position as indicated by Figure 1, and the pin 11, opposite the numeral 5, the mutilated part of the cam 15, will be against the arm 18, thus bringing the arm 18 inward, and the edge 22 of the arm within the region of the perforations 9.
The meter in registering, will register until the pin 11 comes in contact with the edge 22, of the arm 18, and the numeral opposite the pin will show in the face plate. Also the designation City limit will show in the face plate outlined by segment 23.
No matter how far the cab will travel within the city limit, no extra fare will be registered.
If the cab should pass the city limit and additional fare desired to be registered, the flag 14, is turned to the position indicated by Figure 2, the designation Outside city now showin through the face plate.
In this position, the round portion of the cam 15, pushes the arm 18 out of contact with.
the pin 11, thus permitting the device 8, to
register indefinitely.
I do not intend that this invention shall be construed as limited to the precise structure herein described and illustrated in the drawings, but wish it to be construed to cover all equivalent devices falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a taximeter, in combination, a control shaft having a plurality of tariff positions, a
signal attached thereto and serving as a manual operating means therefor, a cam on said shaft, a spring controlled arm acting on the periphery of said cam, a tariff indicating device, fixed means on said device which cooperate with said arm to prevent the device from registering above a predetermined amount when the flag is in one tariff position, and to allow the device to register unlimited when the flag is in another tariff position.
Signed at New York, New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 30th day of August, A. D. 1928.
JOSEPH WEISINGER.
