Description
March 29, 1932. A. E. sJosTRAND EAR PROTECTOR Filed Nov. 24. 195o Patented Mar. 29, 1932 UNITED STATES ANNA E. SJOSTRAND, F S'I. PTER, IMIIN1\`l'lES0'JIA` Een Pno'r'ncron Application mea November 24, i930; seriai'No. 497,917.
This invention appertains to toilet articles and more particularly to a novel device for use in beauty parlors for protecting the ears during the various operations of hair dressing.
Considerable injury and discomfort is often caused to persons having their hair dressed from'irons and the like, and also from the hot blast of air used in the hair drying operation.
It is therefore one of the primary objects of my invention to provide a device for snugly fitting over the ears, which will effectively protect the ears from heat, so as to give the persons having their hairdressed perfect safety and comfort during the hair dressing' operation.
Another salient object of my invention is the provision of novel means for forming the ear protectors, so as to render the same comfortable to the wearer and attractive to the yA further object of my invention is to provide a protector for the ears of persons hav- CTI shaped members snugly litting over the ears formed of asbestos or like material, suitably reinforced with chin straps connected tothe reinforcing members and adjustably united.
A still further obj ect of my invention is to provide an improved ear protector of the above character, which will be durable and efficient in use, one that will be simple `and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
I.Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described,
ing drawings., in which drawings:
Figure l is a side elevation showing the device in use.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of my improved ear lprotectors with one of" the. ear cups shown broken away and in section. j
Figure 3 is a detail section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings in detail, whereing their hair dressed embodying novel cup-v claimed, and illustrated in the accompany in similar reference vcharactersvd'esignate corresponding parts throughoutV the' several views, the letter A generally indicates my improved ear protecting device7 whichcomprises a pair of vsubstantially cup-shapednear 55 receiving members 5 and 6. These ear receiving members 5 and 6 arepreferably molded from asbestosflbrefor-like `material 7, rein-y forced Vbymetallic bands 8. -These metallic bands 8 are provided with, at spaced points, 6 0' headed knobs 9, which form' anchoringmeans for the asbestos-material. In actual practice the asbestos paste material 7 can be pressed over the metal reinforcing members 8 and 9 andmolded into shape. These metal ybands 8 extend downwardly and inwardly from the ear receiving'members and 6 to form chin engaging resilient straps l0, the lower terminalsof which are arranged inoverla'pping relation and connectedl together by an ad- 7o.
justable sleeve' or loop 11.
The inner surface of the inner cups or members 5 and 6 can be coated with or receive a lining of some soft material, such as rub,- ber or the like 12. i i 75 I also prefer to finish the outer surface of the ear cups or members 5 and so that the same will present a pleasing and attractivek appearance. The ear cups or members 5 and V6 are provided with an exterior skin 12 of 80 smooth washable material. i
It is to be noted that the upper end of the ear cups or members are provided with depending anges 13, which act as hooks for engaging over the ears, and these cups are so B5 formed as to conform to the actual configuration of the ear as nearly as possible.
From the foregoing description, it can be lseen that I have provided 'novel means for guarding the ears duringV the hair Vdressing k Y operation, and which means, isso lconstructed as to permit the ready association thereof to tfhe ears and with a maximum amount of comort. f
Changes in details maybe made without departing from the spiritV or the scope of this invention, but: Y
VVlhat I claim as newl is: 1- f l. An ear protecting device for hair dressing parlors, comprisinga pair of like ear 'l receiving cups, each comprising a metallic reinforcing band having a plurality of s aced headed knobs thereon, a body formed o vheat ceiving cups, each comprifsingffa'fmtll'ii-ref f inforcing band having a plurality of spaced headed knobs thereon, a body formed "of'heat"4V insulating material pressed over the bands'.
insulating material pressed over the bands and headed knobs, resilient chin strap extensions formed on theY metallic bands, and a sleeve adj ustably connecting said V extensions together:
