RENZ' GRADING MACHINE 2 Sheets-Sheet Filed Feb. 19, 1931 In venior mizzzwp zenz fl/ A tlorney Patented Mar. 29, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM BENZ, OF BRENHAM, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO- WILLIAM H. ZSCHLAPPEL, OF BRENHAM, TEXAS GRADING MACHINE This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in terracing, ditching and grading machines and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which can be readily attached to the usual sulky type of plow.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned which can be readily adjusted after attachment to the conventional sulky plow.
During the following specification and claim, other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of the attachment.
Fig. 2 represents a top plan view of the attachment with the sulky plow shown in dotted lines.
Fig. 3 represents a front elevational view of the board and blade.
Fig. 4 represents a fragmentary sectional View of the connection between the board and the brace bar.
Fig. 5 represents a vertical sectional view through the blades.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 generally refers to a conventional type of sulky plo-w which includes the usual beam 6 which curves downwardly at its rear end in the manner substantially shown in Fig. 1.
The invention includes an elongated board 7 to which is secured the transversely curved blade 8. To the forward end portion of the board 7' is adjustably secured the rod 9 which serves to set the board and blade at the proper angle, the rod being secured to the beam 6.
Vertically disposed angle members 10 are secured to the rear side of the board at the intermediate portion thereof and between them and secured thereto is one end of the rod 11, which has its other end clamped as at 12 to the lower portion of the beam 6. This bar 11 serves to permit tilting of the board and blade.
The board 7 with the scraping element 8 thereof and associated parts, such for examed into a mechanism especially adapted for use in transferring dirt from one point to another for a variety of purposes. For example, the invention provides a simple means by which dirt may be transferred from one point to another in building up terraces intended to prevent soil erosion and at the same time to build up worn-out land.
If a ditch is to be formed the cutting element 13 may be located for cutting engagement with the ground.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is v In a structure of the class. described, a beam having a downwardly extending rear end portion, a board extending diagonally of the beam, a rod secured to said beam and adjustably attached to the forward portion of said board, a pair of spaced angle bars secured to the rear side of said board at a point between the ends thereof and extending transversely thereof, a rod having the forward portion thereof positioned therebetween and connected to said angle bars, the rear portion of said rod being connected to the downwardly extending rear portion of said beam.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WILLIAM BENZ.
