This invention relates to correspondence and advertis ng forms and. is particularly adapted to be used with, advertlsing forms in; connection with which a return envelope '5 is desired. 1 a
One of the objects of the invention is to provide'forms which maysuitably be used in folders, books or any ordinary correspondence envelopes,-which -forms. arei'provided with m-eans'by whicha portion thereof may be removed to provide a return envelope." Another object is to provide a sheet which may serve to convey information or an advertisement to the" addressee, a portion of which a 15 may be removedtoprovide a return envelope and a spacewithin the envelope upon which a message may be written. A still further object is to provide sheets of regular or normal size which are provided with weakened U or perforated lines along which a section may be removed to form a return envelope, certain edges of the removedsegment being provided with adhesive would serve to bind together thesidesof the envelope. Other objects and 25 advantages will appear as. the specification proceeds k r The invention isfully described in the fol-' lowing'specification and shown in-the accom .panying drawings in which,'w:
' Figure l is a erspective viewofa folder or booklet conta'ininga sheet embodying my invention; Fig. 2 1s a rear View ofthe sheet shown in Fig. 1; Fig.3 is a'front view of a separate sheet'embodying my invention; and I" u A Flg. 4 1s a view of the rear side of the form of sheet shown 1n Fig. 3. I i I w I In the illustration given, 1 designates a sheet which may beseparate or secured, as
folder, magazine or the shown in Fig. 1, in a like; Sheet 1 is preferably of uniform or regular size and shape, having four straight sides. Written matter may be placed upon the sheet as upon any other sheet which is used in correspondence or for advertising. Preferably, for reasonshereinafter given, the matter appearing upon the sheet is printed thereon.
' To provide a return envelope, a transverse or oblique line 2 is indicated on the sheet w along which the sheet may be separated into sage and certain form statements, may, if ide a side maybe printed with suitable. indicating thatit is 'thesreply envelope, and
an upper part 3 and a lower part 41 The lower part 4.- has two side portions 5., a bottoni'tolner portion 6 and an envelope flap portion 7'. I
The sides 5 may be turned inwardly overa F 7 body portion 8 and thejbottom end portion 55 6 may be turned upwardly to engage andhold the sides 5in position 1T0 facilitatethe folding of the envelope, lines. Qmay'be drawn upon. the sheet. V V 1 i Adhesive 10 may beapplied tjo theedges of no the lower portion. 6fand to the edges of-the, flap portion '7 anddried. When thegumor adhesive 10 on the l'oWer. corner portion 6 is moistened and the piece is applied: to the sides, it will-serveto hold the sides in posi 6 :tion and thus form the envelope receptacle.
If desired, instead of applying adhesive o the edges of the corner 'pieceb, adhesive may 7 be applied to the sides '5, When theadhesive on flap 7 is moistened andfolded over, it will serveto-seal the envelope for mailing.
.The space Swithin ,theenvelopg may I I provided with lines orspace. fo m mes: I
siredbe printed thereon. I i
On the-opposite side of sheet.l,and on sege merit-4L, the exteriorof' the envelope,- orthe V address side of the envelope is provided; This 7 legends,
with-lines for the address, etc...
"Inpreparii gfthe for'm,;it is preferredto firstprint the letter or'advertisement' upon the front face of the sheet. This printed-mattermay ,be-kept'whollyon the segment 3, as shown in Fig. '1,'-or.,' as shown in Fig. 3, it
may cover the major portion of the page.
After the v printing.has been completed, the edges 10 are provided with gum or other ad-: hesive' which isallowed'to dry; The various linesrequired to aid .in the folding operation I may-be printedeither before or lafterorrsimul taneously with thevprinting of the information upon'the front sheet. The line 2 maybe weakened, many-desirable manner, -to enable the parts 3 andel to bef-readilyseparated. 1 Aslshown'. in Figs. '3 and l, the line 2is pe-rforated. Whilelthe line "2 has been indicated in the illustration as of a certain form, it'd-S understood that the line may be modified in direction and shape so as to provide envelopes of different shapes. F or example, the line forming the flap 7 may be modified so as to form a rectangular shaped flap instead of a somewhat inverted V-shaped flap.
By forming the division line at a somewhat slanting or oblique angle, it is obvious that the sides and bottom flap of the envelope are formed without further change or modification. The gum which is placed along the lower flap 10 is on the very edge of the envelope and therefore does not come incont act with any of the written matter. The gum 10 on flap 7 is placed thereon preferably after the printing has been completed and, when in dried form, interferes very little with the printed-matter on the page. In the illnstration given in Fig.- l, the flap 7 is below the printed matter. V 1
By employing a sheet of regular stocksize or of uniform dimensions for this purpose, the expense of providing advertisement, return envelope and return message considerably reduced; while, at the same time, the sheet is adapted for use in magazines, tradefolders and the like. I
'The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding only and no unnecessary limitations should be understoodtherefrom, but the appended claims should be construed as broadly as permissible in View of the prior art.
. I claim:
1. In forms of the character described, a sheet having regular straight sides, said sheets being provided with a transverse line along which said sheet may be separated, one of said separated portions being adapted to be folded to form a return envelope.
2. In forms of the character described, a sheet with four regular straight sides and provided with a slanting line along which said sheet may be separated, one of said separated portions being adapted to be folded to form a return envelope' 3. In forms of the character described, a quadrilateral sheet having-straight sides provided with an oblique line of division, on of the divided segments being adapted to be folded to'fo'rm a return envelope, and means for securing together the folded sides of said envelope. j
l. In forms of the characterset forth, a sheet inthe shape of a parallelogram and having a slanting line of division, said sheet along said line being awakened to enable ready separation of the parts, one of the separated parts being adapted to be folded to form a return envelope, and means for .securing together the sides of said envelope.
5. In forms of the character described, a sheet in the shape of aparallelogram and having aweakened line'of division along which saidsheet may be separated, one of said separated portions being adapted to be folded to form a return envelope, and adhesive disposed upon certain edges of said separated portion and adapted to seal the sides of said envelope.
6. In forms of the character described, a sheet with four regular straight sides and having a slanting perforated line of division, one of the parts adapted to be separated being foldable to form a return envelope, and means for sealing the sides of said envelope.
7. In forms of the character described, a four-sided sheet having regular and straight sides and provided with a diagonal line of division, one of the parts adapted to be separated being foldable to form a return envelope and'means for securing together the sides of said envelope.
8. In forms of the character described, a sheet in the shape of a parallelogram and provided with a transverse line of division, one of said segments formed by the division being substantially triangular and the corner portions of said triangularsegments being foldable inwardly to forman envelope, and means for securing the sides of said envelope.
9. In forms of the character set forth, a folder provided with a sheet having straight regular sides and having a slanting line of division, one of the divided portions being adapted to be folded to provide a return envelope, and means for sealing the sides of said envelope. 1
10. A four sided sheet adapted for use in a magazine and the like, having four straight and regular sides and having also a weakened line of division, said. sheet having adhesive applied to certain portions thereof along which said, sheetmay be separated, one of said divided portions being adapted to be folded-to form azreturn envelope, and said adhesive serving to sealthe sides of said envelope. 7
11. In forms of the character described, a sheet in the shape of a parallelogram provided with a substantially diagonal line of division, one of the segments formed by the division being substantially triangular and the corner portions ofsaid triangular seg mentbeing folded inwardly to form an envelope, and means for securing the sides of said envelope.
