and also having a circular outer wall fittedy j l with cord holders or lifts, each'having spaced rings through which the heater kcordv passes, therings being arranged to hold thecord, and heater suspended therefrom, at any de-y sired height. 7 f
The present invention has forv its main' object the provision ofY a simplied compact heater domey which will include many of the advantageous features of the above apparatus as well as others not obtained therein.
orlift device in aV single unit. l Y
vThese general objects andioth'er detail obj ectsar'e attained in the Aapparatus, illustrated in the accompanying drawings inwhich-l v Figure 1 lis ya sideview of theapparatus sectioned in part. Y 1
Figure 2 is a top view ofthe same withpor tions of the dome broken away. n
Figure Sis a ldetail vertical section taken substantiallyv on the line 3-,3 of Figure 2.
The apparatus is supported on a standard 1 which has a circular sheet metal dome 2'eX- tending substantially atl right angles therefrom. A. ring-likey panel ymember 3 lof baltelite or other insulating material is suspended from dome y2'by bolts f1 and hasa pair of veryticall'y spaced metal strips 6 secured to the inner surface thereof byirivets 5. Extending transversely throughmember 3 at regular.l intervals are a series of perforations 7 having enlargedouter portions, the inner portions v thereof being provided with metal bushings 8 each of which contacts with one of the strips 6 and forms an outlet terminal. Bushings 8 are spaced from the outer surface of member 3 as shown in Figure 3; A two conductor current supply Hcable 9 extends upwardlyV through standard 1 and'` through an, opening 10 in' ymember 3 and connects with'the strips 6.
Another object is to provideadevice whichv will include a connecting plug and cord holder.v
The heatersll, of any suitable design, are suspended on cords 12each of which closely` fits within an opening 13 in the corresponding plug block-14. The blocks 14 'are preferably formed of two parts secured Vtogether `by y screws 15, and each'has an opening 18 for receiving the end .oficordy 12. kProngs 16 are provided with screws 17 lfor connection with the cord. Projecting portions 19 on the plug blocks are vslightlyv wider than the enlarged outer portions of perforations 7 so that blocks will seat again'stfthe outer surface of mem- Y ber. Any desired number ofheaters may be operated from the machine by utilizing additionallpairs'of terminalfopenings or sockets 7 6'5: andthe numberofthe'terminalsmay be: varied accordingy to particular requirement-s; The frictional vengagement between' opening 13 in :the plug block and cord 12 is suiii cient to hold the cordin any position at which l it is placed bytheoperator and to cause-the corresponding heater to be supported at the desired height.. l Y
- While asingle cir'cuit apparatus in 'which current is ysupplied to all heaters atthe same '75 1 Y. Y time is shown, the machinecan readily be arrang'gedifory two or more circuits permitting groups 'of heaters to`be operated separately. In the latter case, lproper Aswitch facilities would be necessary which could be operated Vso separately froma main switch, preferably mounted on the standard. f
Moreover, *eachv plug` block 14 could be modified to accommodate two Vor more heaters u by the provision of one or more additional cord grippingopenings, corresponding withl opening 13, and means for connecting thead-L ditional wire or wires with prongs 16. If def sired, the individual heater cords could be in-A sertedthrough a Vsuitable opening in alug'or V'90, other protuberanceVon'thelplug'block instead of 'through the4 blockI itself, andspring en-V gagement could be provided between the cord and the block which would decrease the wear on"k thecord and'provide for varying the re- 15k y y be modified without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I contemplate the eX- clusive use of all such modifications as come Within the spirit of my invention.
What is claimed is:
1. In a hair waving machine, a support, a. closed Wired member secured thereto, outlety terminals in saidy member adapted to be connected with the terminals of a heater cord,
and a lift element mounted on said member and adapted to directly support said cord and yieldingly maintain the same in a de sired position.
2. In a hair Waving machine, an overhead dome having a closed Wired member suspended therefrom, outlet terminals in said member adapted to be connected with the terminals of a heater cord, and a lift element mounted on said member and adapted to directly support said cord and yieldingly maintain the same in a desired position.
3. In a hair Waving machine, a dome, a continuous member' of insulating material depending therefrom, spaced conductors eX- tending around the periphery thereof, means for connecting said conductors with a source of current, outlet terminals in said `member adapted to be connected with the terminals n of a heater cord, and a lift element mounted on said member and adapted to yieldingly grip said cord tomaintain the saine in a desired position.
4. In a hair Waving machine, a dome having a continuous vertical surface, and a heater cord plug and a lift element for said 'cord mounted on said surface. Y
5. A plug for attaching an outlet cord for an electric unit to a source of current and inlcorresponding cord and serving to maintain the heater at a desired distance from said dome.
In testimony whereof I hereunto alix my signature this 23rd day of June, 1931.
kWILLIAMk GENTRY SHELTON.
cluding a vlift element for yieldingly gripping said cord to maintain said heater at a desired distance from said plug.
6. A plug for attaching an outlet cord for an electric unit to a source of current and comprising a body portion, spaced contacts on said body portion adapted to be connected with an end of said cord, and a recess in said portion shaped to receive a portion of said cord spaced from said .end and to yieldingly resist its passage therethrough.
7. A plug for attaching an outlet cord for an .electric unit to a source of current and comprising a body portion, spaced contacts on said body portion adapted to be connected with an end of said cord,a recess in said portion shaped to receive a portion of said cord spaced from said end and to yieldingly resist its passage therethrough, and prongs projecting from said body portion for connection to a suitable socket member.
8. In hair ywaving apparatus, a dome including a continuous upright surface, conductors extending along said surface, outlet terminals in said'surface, and a combination heater cord plug block and cord lifty member detachably engaging said terminals'.
