THE GRAPHIC C0.N.Y
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST WEBER, 0E NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, AND CHARLES WILHELM, 0E
NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lIN `CASTER-BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,002, dated December 5, 1876; lapplication filed May 8, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, AUGUST WEBER, ot' Newark, in the State of New Jersey, and CHARLES WILHELM, ot' the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Caster-Bottles, ot' which the following is al specification:
In Letters Patent No. 145,138, granted to A. Weber, there is an opening at .the bottom of the bottle, a valve to the same, and a plunger'or piston to eject the mustard, sauce, or other material. In that case itis necessary to draw the valve back, and a reverse screw is used for that purpose. -v
Our present invention relates to a'plunge with a yielding valve, in combination with an "ejecting-nipple having a two-part passageway, the one portion forming an opening for the valve to move in, and the other part allowing the sauce to be ejected w-hen the piston is forced.
By this construction the reverse screw and mechanism are dispensed with, and thefappliance rendered very simple and durable.
In the drawln g, Figure l is a vertical section ofthe bottle complete, and Fig. 2 is a sec'- tional plan at the line xx.
lhe bottle ce is ot' any desired size 0r shape, and b is a nipple, that is inserted into the lower part of the bottle at a contraction therein above the base. This nipple is to be of any suitable material, and when the bottle is of glass, the nipple is secured by plaster or otherwise; and this nipple is made with a cylindrical cavity, 2, a central hole, 3, and an adjacent continuation, 4, of' the hole 3.
The covercl is tted upon the upper end ot' the bottle a, and is preferably air-tight, or nearly so, and upon the under side isa hollow central cylinder, c, containing the helical springf, through which passes the plunger-rod g, with a ring-shoulder above the spring f', so that the plunger and rod will be inl an elevated. position ordinarily. The bottom end ofthe rod g forms a plunger, that lits the cylindrical cavity 2, and there is a small stem, t', with-a head within the hollow end ofthe plunger g', below the helical spring k, and at the lower end of the stem c' is the valve o, fitting the central hole 3;
In the normal condition the valve ois in the hole 3, above the lateral connection 4, so that the outlet is closed. When the Stem is pressed down by the hand or finger upon the upper end ot' the plunger-rod g, the valve o is moved down in the hole 3, below the lateral connection 4, and then the plunger g', entering the cylinder 2, forces down the mustard, or sauce, or other material; and at the reverse movement the plunger draws in any semin liquid material remaining in the opening 4, and the rising of the valve o again closes the outlet V3, retaining the contents of the casterbottle.
This bottle may be employed for mustard, catchups, molasses, or other materials, and it is very convenient for supplying small quantities, as required; at the same time the atlnosphere is excluded fromthe material in the bottle.
We claim as our invention- The nipple b, provided with the cylinder 2 and openings 3 and 4, and applied at the lower part ot' the caster-bottle, in combination with the spring-plunger g and spring-valve o, substantially as set forth. 1
AUGUST WEBER. CHARLES WILHELM.
