P. RATHMANN FOCUSING DEVICE FOR ELECTRIC LAMPS Filed May 8, 1930 Patented Mar. 15, 1932 UNITED STATES PAUL RATHMANN, OF BODENBACI-I, CZECHOSIJOVAKIA, ASSIGNOB TO THEFIRM ELEK- TROTECHNISCHE FABRIK SCHMIDT & 00., GESELL SCHAFT M. B. 1-1., OFBODENBACH,
CZECHOSLOVAKIA FOCUSING DEVICE FOR ELECTRIC LAMPS Application filed May 8, 1930, Serial No. 450,777, and in Czechoslovakia December 12, 1929.
My invention relates to a focusin device for electric lamps in which the reflector 1s adapted to be displaced with respect to the bulb.
It is an object of my invention to so design a lamp of the kind referred tothat it is without any projecting parts and the reflector is adjusted by a slide.
To this end I provide a slide, a rotatable reflector support, means for axially displacing the reflector and said support, and means comprising a pin and a slotted member for rotating the support by displacing the slide.
In the drawings aflixed to this specification and forming part thereof a flash lamp equipped with my focusing device is illustrated diagrammatically by way of example.
In the drawings 7 Fig. 1 is an elevation of the lamp showing its casing partly broken open, with the front cover removed, and
Fig. 2 is a section on the line IIII in Fig. 1. 7
Referring now to the drawings, the reference numeral 10 indicates the lamp'c'asing to which in known manner the incandescent lamp holder 11 is suitably secured. The incandescent lamp 12 is in usual manner screwed into the said lamp holder and passes through an aperture in the middle of the reflector 13,
the reflector with its cylindrical extension 14 being mounted to rotate and to slide on the lamp holder 11. The lamp holder 11 is formed with one or a plurality of inclined slots 15 (in the illustrated example with three such slots) adapted to receive a'suitable pin 16 arranged upon the said cylindrical reflector extension 14. On turning the reflector upon the lamp holder the displacement of the reflector 13 relatively to and in axial direction of the lamp 12 will take place in the usual manner. Secured to the cylindrical reflector extension 14 there is a pin 17 extending in parallel to the axis of the reflector. The pin 17 engages in a slot 18 arranged in a member 19 located within the lamp casing. As shown in the drawings the member is a plate extending into the casing 10, 26 is a bracket on which the slotted member 19 is held by foldedover lugs 27, and is a pin on the outer end of the holder Whichextends through a slot 28 in the wall of the casing 10. 29 is a plate which is secured on the pin 20 so as tomake a sliding fit with the inner wall of the casing10 at the sides of the slot and 24 is a spring which is held on the pin 20 by a rivet head 21 and. makes a sliding fit on the outer face of the wall opposite the plate 29. Y The plate 29 and the spring 24 constitute the'slide. 7 It will ap pear that the lamp" is without any projecting parts as the spring24 moves between parallel crozes on the casin 10, and the mechanism for rotating the reflector is concealed in the casing.
The slide is displaced on the lamp casing and carries with it the member 19, thereby engaging thepin 17, turning the cylindrical reflector extension 14. upon the lamp holder 11 and displacing the reflector in the direction of its axis, the said pin 17 being free to move in the slot 18 as it rotates with the extension 14.
The lamp is in known manner provided I with a switch andis fed by a battery 22 as shown in the drawings. The lamp may also be fed with the current of a dynamo. The essential feature of this invention is the actuation of the adjustable reflector through the intermediary of a pinand fork coupling.
I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. I claim: I 1. A focusing device for electric lamps, comprising a casing, abulb and a reflector within said casing, a rotatable reflector support, also within said casing, means for axially displacing said reflector and said support with respect to said bulb when said support is rotated, a slide mounted tobe displaced on said casing, and means comprising a pin and a slotted member for rotating said support by displacing said slide. v 1 i 2. A focusing device for electric lamps, comprising a casing, a bulb and a reflector within said casing, a rotatable reflector support, also within said casing, means for axially displacing said reflector and said support J With respect to said bulb when said support is rotated, a pin extending in parallel to the axis of said reflector and secured thereto, a slide mounted to be displaced on said casing,
gaging said pin.
In testimony W 5 and a slotted member on said slide for enhereof I afiix Iuy siguature. PAUL RATHMANN.
