Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HIS RIGHT TO CLAYTON M. PASQHAL, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LUBRlCATlNG-OILS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,927, dated November 28, 1876; application filed October 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH M. O. THOMAS, of Hawleyville, in the county of Page and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Lubricating-Oils; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same.
This invention consists in a lubricating-oil composed of the ingredients, mixed in the proportions, hereinafter stated.
To make the said oil, first dissolve in a quart of hot water the following ingredients, in the proportions named: Sal-soda, one-quarter of a pound; borax, one half a pound; prussiate of potassa, two and a half ounces; common salt, one-quarter of a pound. Then add to this solution three quarts of caster-oil and one ounce of sulphate of zinc. One gallon of my oil is thus produced.
This oil is almost uninflammable, and can be used for a very long time. It is also very cheaply and easily manufactured.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A lubricating -oil composed of sal soda, borax, prussiate of potassa, common salt, castor-oil, sulphate of zinc, and water, substantiallyin the proportions set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH M. O. THOMAS.
Witnesses:
R. A. MILLER, W. A. OWEN.
