It may be noted at the outset that all of the figures of the drawings are highly diagrammatic and for the sake of clarity avoid all showing of details of the endless cabin chains and various other equipment which is disclosed in my prior patent above identified and in various copencling applications.
In the drawings, I have used the reference numerals 10, to designate the opposite side building, this building being provided with a basement floor 11 and a central roof section 12. The side walls 10 cooperate with transverse vertical walls 13 and longitudinal vertical walls 14 to define banks of vertical shaftways 15 at opposite sides of the building, these shaftways extending the full height of the buildmg and being connected at their tops and bottoms by horizontal cross-ways 16 and 17.
Trains of storage cabins 18 are mounted on endless chains 19 actuated in any suitable manner (not shown) for movement through the orbital paths defined by the vertical shaftways 15 and the upper and lower crossways 16 and 17.
As thus far described, the construction may be entirely conventional and in accordance with my prior patent. An improvement over such patent, however, resides in the use of a series of horizontal storage floors 20, the restricted intermediate portions of which are disposed between the banks of shaftways 15. These floors instead of terminating at the ends of the shaftway banks, as in my prior patent, extend therebeyond, such floor extensions being numbered 21 and being the full width of the building. In order to comply with building requirements, terraces or set-backs such as 22 and 23 are provided by cutting down or stepping back certain of the upper storage floor extensions v21. In this manner building laws are complied with without the need for reducing the total height of any of the shaftway units 15 16 and 17.
Preferably the lowermost of the floors between the shaftways 15 comprises a receiving floor 24 while the immediately superjacent floor 25 serves as a car delivery floor.

Preferably a pivotally mounted skeleton platform 34 is ar ranged on each of the platforms 30. This platform is axially centered with the elongated plat-form 30 as shown at the lefthand corner of Figure 4 at the time when the car is driven in through the doorway 32. It consists preferably of a pair of parallel rails 35 connected by cross-braces 36 and 37. One of the braces 37 has a pivotal connection at 38 with the platform 30 and the other crossbrace 36 carries a roller 40 travelling on a bearing plate 40 on the platform 30.
By virtue of this arrangement, when one of the elevators 30 reaches a storage floor extension 21, the swinging skeleton platform 34 may be manually or otherwise drawn partially through thedoorway 33 as seen at the upper right hand corner of Figure 4, so that a car without turning the wheels may be driven straight out as indicated by the arrow in Figure 4 and driven into any of the numerous parking places shown diagrammatically at 41. Subsequently skeleton platform 25 is pushed back into the elevator to clear the storage floor and permit the elevator to again travel in its shaftway. A relatively long narrow building of substantial height and a pair of independently operatinginterlocking car storage systems housed therein, one of said systems including endless chains of car storage cab-ins, shaftways at opposite sides of the building spaced from the ends thereof and horizontal cross-waysat the" top and bottom of the building connectingsaid shaftways, 'saidshaftways and crossways defining an orbital path for the travel of the cabins of the endless V chains, the other system including storage floors, the restricted intermediate portions of which are disposed between the banks of shaftways and the ends of which extend the a full width of the building, and conveyor elevators disposed at the ends of the building beyond the storage cabin shaftways for delivering and receiving cars from the storage floors.

An elevator car including a floor longer in one horizontal dimension than in the other, a track unit swivelly mounted adjacent one end on the floor, the car having a doorway in one end thereof whereby a vehicle may be rolled on to the track unit through such door when the track unit is axially alined with the floor of the car, said car also having an elongated doorway in one side thereof whereby a I vehicle may be rolled off the track unit after the latter has been swung on its swivel bearing to a position where it projects through I and beyond the said doorway.
14. A relatively long, narrow building of substantial height and a pair of independently operating interlocking car storage systems housed therein, one of said systems including endless chains of car storage cabins,
shaftways at opposite sides of the building a spaced from the ends thereof and horizontal cross-ways at the top and bottom of the building connecting said shaftways, said shaftways and crossways defining an orbital path of travel for the cabins of the endless V chains, the other system including storage floors, the intermediate portions of which extend the full width of the building, conveyor elevators disposed at the ends of the building beyond the storage cabin shaftways, for
delivering and receiving cars from the storage floors, superimposedloading and unloading floors for the storage cabin system arranged between the banks of shaftways and beneath the storage floors, said loading and unloading floors communicating by driveways with the 1 street through one end of the building, the shaftways for the conveyor elevators of the second system having doorways therein at street level communicating directly-with the outside of the building.
15. A pair of independently operating car 7 storage systems housed within a single buildlng and inter-fitting w1th each other, one system including endless trains of car storage cabins, the other system including storage floors and an elevator for feeding cars to said floors. 1
