-This invention relates to improvements in check or coin controlled mecln ill, and one f the objects of the same is to: provide an improved device of thischaracter which will .efreceive a coin or check of-apredetermined I denomination and permit the same to move into an operative position with respect to the 7 but will arrest improper cheeks and prevent the same from lfi actuating the mechanism, which it is necessary to actuateby the coin or check.
A further object is to provide an improved device of his character embodyinga driven clement adapted to be set ii -motion by the controlled mechanism, and improved mean for rendering the driven element ac-. tive and inact ve with respect to the com controlled mechanism, whereby the driven element will not be actuated until a proper checlr, or coin is inserted.

Suitably mounted is a check detector element 1'? which is provided with a portion 18 adjacent one end adapted to enter the recess 16 in the check carrier when the latter assumes the position shown in dotted lines in Figure l. A spring 19 tends normally to move the end in a direction that it will enter the chechseat 11 in the check carrier when there is no check in the seat or when a check which is thinner than the predetermined size of a check, is inserted in the check seat.
Carried by the member l7is a projection which enters the check seatunder the conditions just-recited to permit the portion 18 to i enter the recess 16 in the carrier 10. When,
however, a proper check is placed in the check seat the projection 20 on the detector member 17 will be engagedby the check or coin and the end 18 will be held so that it will not enter the recess 16, thereby permitting the check carrier to be inverted to the position shown in Figure 9 to discharge the check therefrom.
All of the above referred to parts are of the ordinary and well known construction.
In the present form of the invention the check control-led mechanism is shown in connection with a driven member 21, and the latter is supported in a suitable bearing 22 so that the extremity 23 of the member 21 will enter a recess 2d in a rotatable member 25 which has a constant direction of rotation. This member 25 is mounted independently of the check carrier 10 and is provided with notches or recesses 26 opening through its periphery and is also provided with a portion 27 which is of a diameter considerably less than the diameter of the portion 25. In the reduced portion 27 is provided notches or recesses 28 opening through the periphery thereof, and the notches 28 are preferably disposed in proximity to the respective notches 26.
Theydriven member 21 being connected with thcmember 25 27, will be rotated when the latter is rotated and will be prevented from rotation when the member 25-"27 is locked against rotation.
Pivotally mounted upon a suitable'supporting structure is a dog 29 which is provided with aportion 30 adapted to enter the recesses' 26 in'the member 25. The dog 29 is mounted to swing about a pivot 31 and is provided with'a laterally'defiected portion32 which co-operates with. acheck receiving seat I 33 arra-nged'adjacentthe path of movement oftheperiphery of the checkcarrier 10.

' "When a-oheck 35 is deposited upon the support 33, it will be held-between the portion 32 ofthe dog 29and' the support 33 until the direction of rotation of the check carrier 10 isreversed, at which time-the shoulder 12 will engage the periphery of the check and force the same between the space formed by the portion 32 of the dog 29 and the support 33.: This will result in rocking the dog 29 aboutits pivot against'the stress of the spring 34 to withdraw the portion 30 of the dog 29 outof the recessv26, therebyreleasing the member 25 so that'it will be rotated by'the handle '15 and with it the driven element 21:

The member-36 is held in this position through the medium of the spring 34, the locking dog 29 and the extremity 30, which latter operates in the bifurcation 46 in'the arm 39 of the member 36. When a proper 'checkor coin is deposited in the check seat 11' and the latter has-been turned tothe position shown in Figure 9,

As soon as the check 35 has passed through the space between the portion 32 of the looking dog 29 and the support 33, the spring 34 Wlll rock the locking'dog '29 about its pivot so as to again move the projection 30 into one of the: notches 26.
