IvIILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN; ASSIGNOB F ONE-HALF TO DAVID E. YOUNGQUIST, GTE GRANVILLE, WISCONSIN FOLDING CRIB Application filed May 18, 1929. Serial N'o. 364,055.
This invention relates to improvements in folding cribs It is one of the objects of this invention to provide an improved folding crib which may be readily collapsed to a convenient size to facilitate transportation thereof, and also to render it capable of being stored in a relatively small space when not in use.
A further object of this invention is to provide a folding crib in which the ma or parts are movable to a position parallel to one another.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a folding crib in which all parts are held rigidly when in assembled position.
A. further object of this invention is to provide a folding crib which is simple in construction and-well adapted for the purpose described. 7 7 I With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the improved folding crib and all its parts and combinations, as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof. I
r In the accompanying drawings, in which the same reference numerals designate the same parts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the crib 1n assembled condition;
Fig.2 is a plan view thereof in folded condition, the dotted lines indicating the position of the end members before being folded;
I Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken on line 33 of Fig. 1, the dotted lines indicating thefolded position of the bottom member and mattress;
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary detail side view, part being broken away;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary plan view Referring to the drawings, the numerals 5 designate end members, which each comprise legs 6, and transverse members 7 joined by rods 8. The transverse members are formed in two sections, which are hinged together as at 9. Each of the transverse memhers is formed with a longitudinal slot 10, the said slot extending into one leg member and then downwardly as at 11 (see detail in Fig. 5).
Extending inwardly from opposite leg members 6, and parallel thereto, are guide rods 12. A side member 13 is vertically slidable on said rods.
A side member 14, at the other side of the crib, has its ends provided with projecting pins 15, the latter having enlarged head portions 16, which fit within the slots 11 to hold the side member 14 in position (see Fig. 5). Extending inwardly from the lower portion of the side member 14 are L-shaped brackets 17. Positioned between said brackets, and having its sides pivoted thereto, is a bottom member 18 carrying springs 19. A mattress 20 is adapted to be positionedon said springs.
Near the other longitudinal edge, the sides of the bottom member are provided with projecting angle brackets 21 having a downwardly extending portion (see Fig. 4). The said angle brackets are adapted to engage brackets 22 extending inwardly from the crib end members. The brackets 22 have a lower U-shaped portion as shown.
The side member 13 is provided with pivotally mounted stop members 23, which may be turned to the position shown in Fig. 1 to engage the upper side of the bottom member 18 so as to prevent downward movement of the side member 13.
To collapse the crib, the stop members 23 are turned to release the side 13, and the brackets 21 of the bottom member 18 are disengaged from the brackets 22 so that the bottom member may be swung upwardly to the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 3, the mattress being carried with it. Next, the side member 14 is raised upwardly until the headed pins 15 are in line with the slots 10. The side member is then pushed inwardly, the pins sliding in the grooves 10, to the position shown in Fig. 2. Then the end membersaie folded inwardly from the'do-tted line position shown in Fig. 2 to the full line position. To assemble the crib, the'reverse operation is performed.
Although only the preferred form of crib has been shown and described, it is not desired to be limited thereto, as the broad concept of the invention contemplates all changes and modifications as may fairly come within the scope of the claims.
lVhat I claim is:
1. A folding crib comprising a pair of end members each formed of two hinged together sections, each end member having upper and lower horizontal communicating slots in said sections, a pair of side members, and a bottom member, means on one of said side members engaging with said slots in the end members to permit sliding movement of said side member, the latter being maintained in a substantially vertical position during and after said sliding movement, and brac rets extending inwardly from said last mentioned side member, said bottom member being pivotally connected to said brackets and being movable to a position parallel to said side member and slidable therewith, and one of the sections of each of said end members being foldable inwardly, all of said members in collapsed position being closely adjacent to one another, and the other side member bein connected to o the non-foldable sections of the foldable end members. 7
2. A folding crib comprising a pair of end members each formed of two hinged together sect-ions, each end member having upper and lower horizontal communicating slots in said sections, a pair of side members, and a bottom member, means on one of said side members engaging with said slots in the end members to permit sliding movement of said side member, the latter being maintained in a substantlally vertical position during and atter said sliding movement, brackets extending a position parallel to said side member and slidable therewith, and means for limiting the downward movement of said bottom member, one of the sections of each of said end members being foldable inwardly, all of said members in collapsed position being closely adjacent to one another, and the other side member being connected to the non-foldable sections of the foldableend members.
