Description

J; H. JEWETT.
SAMPLE SHOE HOLDER. No.184,6Z6. rmnwa Nov. 2-1, 1876.
I WA.
UNITED STATES JAMES H. JEWETT, OF
PATENT OFFICE.
BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAMPLE-SHOE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [8 1.626, dated November 21, 1876; application filed April 28, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs H. JEWETT, of Bufl'alo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have made certain Improvements in Sample-Shoe Holders, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to acombined spring hook and clamp, which hangs on a shoe-box, and at the same time holds a sample boot or shoe outside the box containing the shoes or boots; and the invention consists in a single piece of wire or flat metal, bent in the form shown, and hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective ot' a ladys-boot box, showing my invention fastened thereto, and clamping 0n the outside a sample boot. Fig.2 shows the combined clamp and hook detached from the box.
A represents the single piece of wire, ofany suitable size, and of such quality as to retain acertain amount of elasticity, and which is first bent, as shown at a a, and farther upitis again bent at b b, and the two ends hanging down forming books. which are hung onto the edge of the box B, the hooks coming inside the box, and the other part hanging out side. This does not interfere with the boxcover shutting over the top of the box.
Inside the clamp part A a a the upper part of a boot or shoe is inserted, and'is held there tightly against the box, as shown in Fig. 1. The peculiar bending of the wire clamp accomplishes this, so that the boot is kept in place and thoroughly displayed as a sample of the goods in the box. Thisis ofiinportance in the shoe business, as the ordinary way of hanging them by a string is bad in many ways, the string slipping from the boot or breaking.
With my clamp a uniformity in the display of samples on the shelves is obtained, and the sample kept in plain sight and thoroughly exhibited.
I claim- The sample boot and shoe holder or exhibitor, madeof a single piece of wire, and bent in the form shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
J. H. JEWETT.
