This invention relates to a motion picture projection apparatus, and more particularly to a new and improved means for applyin electric current to the various parts thereo The apparatus constructed in accordance with the present invention includes a connection box which is conveniently located for applying current to the hand switch controlling the projection light and to the foot switch controlling the motor. The hand switch is supported on the rear framework of the machine and is designed to disconnect both sides of the line from the lamp house.
The foot switch is adapted to electrically Connect or disconnect the motor in response to foot pressure. It is provided with a plunger which on its downward stroke operates to alternately open and close contacts which are connected with the motor and the supply line. The foot switch is conveniently located in a position readily accessible to the operator, and simplifies starting the apparatus when changing projection machines at the end of a reel.
The invention also consists in certain new and original features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.
Although the novel features which are believed to be characteristic of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto, the invention itself, as to its objects and advantages, the mode of its operation and the manner ofits organization may be better understood by referring to the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof, in which- Fig. 1 is an elevation of a motion picture projection apparatus embodying the novel features described herein;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the foot switch;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-.3 of Fig. 2; and
ig. 4 is a diagrammatic illustration of the electrical connections of the machine.
Like reference characters denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
In the following description and in the claims arts will be identified by specific names or convenience, but they are intended to be as generic in their application to similar parts as the art will permit. Referrin more particularly .to the drawlngs, there 1s shown in Fig. 1, a motion picture projection apparatus comprising a base member 15 having suitable supporting feet 16 and adapted to carry the various parts of the apparatus. Conduit 17 is passed through said base into a connection box 18 from which the electrical connections to the various parts of the apparatus are taken. A foot switch 19 is supported by the base at the central portion thereof and includes a plunger 20 which is adapted to be pressed downwardly by the foot of the operator to connect and disconnect motor 21 from the current supply line. The particular construction of switch 19 will be set forth more in detail hereinafter.
Pedestal 22 is secured to the forward part of base 15 in any suitable manner and oper' ates as a support for the various pieces of apparatus. Pedestal lever 23 is pivotally secured to the top of pedestal 22 as by bolt 24 and is provided with a forward extension 25 by means of which the projection head 26, upper film magazine 27 and lower film-magazine 28 are supported. Lever 23 is provided rearwardly with vertically aligned bearings 29 to which web 30 is pivotally secured. Lamp house base 31 is pivotally secured as by bearing 32 to web 30 and carries lamp house 33 of any well known construction. A guide rod 30a is pivotally mounted in bearings 29, 29a of lever 23 and is secured to lamp house base 31 for maintaining the same in parallelism during movement thereof.
Adjusting screw 34 is rigidly supported in bracket 35 which is secured to pedestal 22 in any desired manner as b bolts 36.
Yoke 37 which is rigidly secure to pedestal lever 23 contacts with collar 38 and determines the anglevof projection of the machine. Collar 38 is threaded on screw 34 and may be operated by hand wheel 39.
The lamp house is adapted to slide longitudinally on rear supporting frame 40 of the machine. The rear supporting frame 100 rear bracing frame are shown more in detail in a co-pending application of August-o vDina, Seria-l No. 257,831, filed February 29, 1928. Only so much thereof has been disclosed in the present specification as is necessary to an understanding of the invention. f
The foot switch shown more in detail in Fig. 2 comprises a casing 52 suitably rcessed to receive a switch member 53 of any well blown construction. Switch member 53 is provided with push button 54 which is adapted on its downward stroke to alter nately open and close the circuit therethrough. The particular form of switch member, however, forms no part of the present invention and will not be described herein in detail.
Cover 55, which may be secured to casing 52 by screws 56, is provided with a plurality of vertical bores for receiving a push rod 20 and plungers 57. The lower portion of push rod 20 is provided with an outwardly extending flange 58 which is adapted to contact with shoulder 59 on cover 55 to prevent the rod from being entirely withdrawn. Cap 60 is secured to the upper portion of push rod 20 by an suitable means such as pin 61 extending t rough the extension of said cap and through push rod 20. Plungers 57 are forced against the lower surface of cap 60 by springs 62 which are retained in the above mentioned recesses in cover 55 by washer 63. Washer 63 may be secured to the lower side of cover 55 by any suitable means such as screws 64.
Cover 55 and casing 52 are formed of suciently strong material to prevent damage thereto by reason of the foot pressure which is exerted on the-cap. The lower portion of cap 60 contacts with the upper end of cover 55" for limiting the movement of push rod 20 whereby injury to switch 53, which is commonly of a comparatively delicate construction, is prevented.
The electrical connections comprise a pair of mains 65 which are passed through conduit 17 into connectionbox 18. A pair of connecting lines. 66 are then taken to switch 50 which is conveniently located for manual operation by the operator. From switch 50 current is carried to the lamp house 33 through a suitable rheostat 67 to permitoperation ofthe apparatus in the usual manner. From connection box 18 leads 68 are taken to switch 19 whence connection is made to 4motor 21 through leads 69. Obviously if the projection light and the motor aeeaoeo ing a foot plun er the switch may be conveniently locate to permit the operator to start the machine without interrupting other tasks in which he may be em loyed.
In starting the machine t e lamp house switch is first thrown in and the projection light brought to its required intensity, the shutter at the time being closed. 1t is important, however, to start the motor 21 substantially simultaneously with the openin of the shutter as the movement of the In the motor. Obviously if the movement of the film is begun a substantial length of time before the shutter is opened an undesirable number of pictures may be lost. On. the other hand, if the shutter is opened before the motor is started, undesirable pronounced flickering would be noticed on the screen. The switch constructed in accordance with the present invention greatly simplifies the above operations and enables the operator to accurately gage the time of starting the machine.
While certain novel features of the invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claims, it will be understood that various omissions, substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.

2. In a motion picture projection apparatus including a base, a supporting pedestal and a rear bracing frame carried thereby, an electrical conduit extending through said base adjacent said bracing frame and between said frame and said pedestal, a connection box supported by said conduit, a hand switch mounted on said frame for controlling the current to the projection light, conductors connecting said switch to said connection box, a driving motor mounted adjacent said pedestal between said pedestal and said'conduit, a foot switch carried by said base between said motor and said conduit, and means whereby said foot switch controls the operation of said motor.
3.
