  • the object of my invention is to dispense with the rails on the table, and the catch which is used to stop the table at the right position with the track that leads from the table, and substitute a broad and guarded rail, commencin g wide at the edge of the table, and getting narrower as it leaves the table, and gradually comes down to the width of the rail, or near enough to guide the car-wheels into the proper place as it leaves the table, and in this way save the driver of the car the labor of arranging the catch each time he turns his car; and, further, saves the car from a very severe jar when the car comes to a sudden halt when it reaches the proper position.

IMPROVEMENT IN TURN-TABLES- S ecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,527, dated November 21, 1876; application filed January 31, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TOM L. JOHNSON, of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Turn-Tables and tracks or approaches to tracks leading to and from turn-tables used in turning street or horse cars at the ends of lines of railroads, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to dispense with the rails on the table, and the catch which is used to stop the table at the right position with the track that leads from the table, and substitute a broad and guarded rail, commencin g wide at the edge of the table, and getting narrower as it leaves the table, and gradually comes down to the width of the rail, or near enough to guide the car-wheels into the proper place as it leaves the table, and in this way save the driver of the car the labor of arranging the catch each time he turns his car; and, further, saves the car from a very severe jar when the car comes to a sudden halt when it reaches the proper position.
In the accompanying drawing, Arepresents the broad tapering rail, with the flange to guide the wheels onto the track. B is the revolving top of the table. (J is the track to and from the table.
