Description

Feb. 9, 1932. 1, HARRlsON 1,844,036
COMBINATION TOOTH BRUSH AND PASTE HOLDER Filed April 13, 1931 Patented Feb. 9, 1932 PATENT OFFICE JESSE HARRISON, F WAGO, TEXAS OOHBINATION TOOTH BRUSH AND PASTE HOLDER Application med April 18,
This invention relates to a combination tooth brush paste holder, the general object of the invention being to provide a container for paste with means for forcing any desired amount of paste therefrom, and a tooth brush removably attached to the outlet end of the container, with the container forming a handle for the brush, the same being attached thereto, and a cap for closin the brush and having means thereon for ho ding the device in the pocket of the user.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout'l the several views, and in which Figure l is a longitudinal sectional View through the device.
Fig 2 is an end View of the device.
In these views, the numeral 1 indicates the cylindrical container which has both ends open and is formed with an intermediate partition 2 having a hole therein. One end of the container is threaded interiorly and exteriorly and a cap 3 is threaded to engage the internal threads to act as a closure for this end of the container. The cap is provided with a discharge neck 4 which is exteriorly threaded and a tooth brush 5 has a socket 6 in the end of its handle, which is made of short length, so that this handle can be threaded on the neck as shown in Fig. 1.
A gasket 7 is located in the bottom of the socket for forming a tight joint when the brush is threaded on the neck. A piston 8 has a rod 9 connected thereto which rod passes through the hole in the casing 2 and the outer end of the rod is threaded in a member 10 which has one end slidably arranged in the outer end of the cylinder 1. A spring 11 encircles the rod and bears against the partition 2 and against the member 10 and 1931. Serial No. 529,833.
normally holds the piston 8 in contact with the partition 2.
A cylindrical cap 12 has threads in its open end for engaging the exterior threads on the cylindrical container 1 for closing the brush 55 as shown in Fig. 1. A spring 13 having a spherical member 14 at its free end is fastened to the cap for lholding the brush in a pocket of a garment, the same as a fountain pen is held in a pocket.
From the foregoing, it will be seen when it is desired to use the brush the cap 12 is removed and then the brush 5 is removed from the neck 4. The brush is held in one hand and the container 1 in the other hand and the 65 thumb of the other hand is used to press the member 10 inwardly so that the piston 8 will force some of the paste, which has been placed in the container, forwardly in front ofthe partition 2, through the neck 4, upon the bristles of the brush. The brush is then placed on the neck and the device used in the ordinary manner, the cylindrical container 1 forming a handle for the brush.
The bristles of the brush are then cleaned by running water over the same, and as much of the water removed as is possible and then the cap 12 is pushed back in place after which the device is to be placed in the pocket again.
The end of the cap is provided with perforations 15 for permitting air to* enter the cap to dry the bristles and vto ventilate the brush.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple device enabling one to clean his teeth wherever he may happen to be without necessitating carrying a tooth brush and a tube of paste with him.
The paste is placed in the container 1 by removing the cap 8 and placing the paste in the 99 part 1 and it is returned to the piston after the cap 3 is replaced.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,
provided that such changes fall within the 10 scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A device ofthe class described com rising a container having both ends open an a partition extending across the intermediate part of the container and spaced from both ends thereof, a cap closing one end of the contalner and having a threaded outlet neck, a brush having a socket in its handle for receivin the threaded neck, a piston in that part o the container between the artition and the cap, a rod connected with the iston and passing through the partitions, and an elongated handle member having one end slidahly arranged in that end of the cylinder which 1s opposite the end which carries the cap, and the piston rod being connected to the said member and a spring encircling the rod and bearing against the partition and said handle member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JESSE HARRISON.
