Beveled pinions 35 are fiXedly mounted on these shafts and provided with ratchet clutches 36 coacting with the ratchet clutch members 87 slidably mounted on the shaft to rotate therewith and held in yielding engagement with the pinion clutches 36 by means of the springs 88 so that as the seat is swung in one direction on its pivot, the shafts are driven to drive the winding roll a suiiicient distance to present a fresh surface of the covering web of paper.

In the Vembodiment illustrated the rear ends of the shafts 32 are supported in bearings 39 rotatably mounted on the spindle 20. This provides an effective support for the shafts and permits the swinging of the seat upon the spindle.

To facilitate the attachment of the web of paper l() to the winding roll, the winding roll is provided with a resilient facing 41 upon suitable core,.an attaching strip 4:2 being secured at one end to the winding roll so that the end of the web may be inserted between this attaching strip and wound ui therewith, thereby frictionally holding-the web.

The side members are provided with openings 43 at the sides thereof through which the web of paper may be passed from the winding roll over the inwardly inclined supporting surface of the side members of the seat, this, supporting surface being preferably straight so that the web of paper lies fiat thereon.

By thus protecting the surface of the seat, it may be formed of metal and enameled, thus presenting a very durable surface and :zei-t the same time a covered or protected surace.

My improvements enable the quick removal and replacement of the rolls; the paper is positively fed by the manipulation of the seat, that is, the raising and lowering thereof.

I have not attempted to illustrate or describe various modifications and adaptations which I contemplate as it is believed that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt my improvements as may be desired.

.Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. The combination of a forwardly facing U-shaped toilet seat having chambered rear and side members, the side members having removable top sections provided with roll holders, supply and winding rolls mounted in parallel relation in said holders, the winding rolls being-provided with chuck engaging members at their rear ends, the seat side members having slots in the sides thereof through which a web of paper may be passed from the supply rolls around the tops of the side members to the winding rolls, the side members having straight paper supporting portions, supporting posts, the bottom wall of the rear seatniember having slots therein to receive said posts, a seat supporting spindle arranged in the rear seat member and keyed to one of said posts, a sleeve on said spindle rotatable Vin thel other postv and having a portion of end to said sleeve on said spindle, segmental. The combination of a chambered toilet seat, the side portions of which aresubstantially straight and having ren'iovable top sections, each provided with supply and wind-'- ing roll holders, supply and winding rolls mounted in said holders, the winding rolls being provided with chuck engaging members, the seat side members having slots therein through which a `web of papermay be passed from the supply rolls over the tops of the side members to the winding rolls, a supporting spindle on which said seat is pivotally mounted, a sleeve rotatable on said spindle,- a coiled spring arranged on'V said spindle, one edge of the spring being engaged with the sleeve and the other with a non-rotatable part wherebythe spring acts to swing the seat to raised position, segmental racks keyed to said spindle, winding` roll driving shafts mounted within said seat and provided with chucks with which the winding roll chuck engaging members are detachably engageable, pinions rotatably mounted on said'shafts to coact with said racks and provided with ratchet clutch members, and coacting ratchet clutch member-s rotatable with and yieldingly supported on said spindles to coact with said pinion clutches.
