IMPROVEMENT IN MUSTACHE-GUARDS FOR CUPS.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 184,316, dated November 14, 1876; application filed March 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH AVEY, of Mount Morris, in the county of Ogle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Mustache Mouth-Pieces; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my moustache mouthpiece, and-Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of my mouth-piece, and Fig. 4: isa front elevation of the same when detached from the cup and the plate. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal vertical section.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a detachable moustache mouth-piece for cups, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A represents an ordinary coffee or tea cup. B represents a plate made .of solid silver, or of nickle silverplated, and ofthe form substantially as shown, with an aperture, b, as shown in the drawings. At each end of the plate B is a wire guard, O, which fits over the edge of the cupholding the plate within it close to the inside of the cup,-the plate thus forming a mouth-piece for applicable to any cup of common construction.

1573, No. 144,614, and I therefore lay no claim to such invention, which differs from my invention in its construction, in that I employ bent spring-wires, embracing a portion of the outer surface of the cup, and pressing in opposite directions, thus aifording a broad bearing, and enabling me to dispense with the flange projecting from the upper face of the moustache-shield.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, the solid removable segmental plate B, provided with the orifice b and bent spring wire guards G, constructed and adapted to fit over the edge ofa cup, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
