rlhis invention. relates to gramophones and refers more particularly to gramophones of the kind having automatic means for discharging 'spent needles and replacing them by fresh ones, the present invention relating particularly to a new or improved construction ofmagazine for holding the needles.
A needle magazine constructed in accordance -with the present invention comprises a 1i IO'box like casing. having a hinged or movable side so that a needle package containing a row of needles arranged in parallel relationship can conveniently be placed in position, the magazine also including means for position- 315 ing the needle pack'age,.means for guiding the' row of needles and spring means for feeding the `row of needles and an ejecting plunger for ejecting the end needle of the row from the magazine into a needle holder.
- The box like casing may be made in two halveshinged together and a base or magazine'V carrier may be provided for receiving .the magazine proper, the base orcarrier having means for retainingthe magazine in its 'proper' relationship thereto.
The positioning means to position the needle package within the magazine may -include pinswhich register with openings inthe needle package and may also include a spring pressed plate exerting pressure on one side of the needle package. f
The means for feeding the row-of needles towards one end may take vthe form of a spring drum and flexible member connected to a pusher, and the pusher may be provided with a finger piece so that it can be withdrawn by hand when an empty needle package is to be removed and a fresh one inserted. In connection with needle magazines for gramopliones, the gramophone is Vprovided with means for operatingfa plunger on the magazine, and a furthery feature of the present invention consists inl providing ya device automatically to sever themechanical connection between the plunger operator and the plunger when it is desired to remove the magazine for recharging or for any other purpose. H
The means for severing the mechanical are Y connection between the plunger operator and the plunger may be actuated from a locking lever or member which is employed to retain themagazine in its base or carrier.

In the construction illustrated, the magazine comprises a body 1 and a hinged side 2 attached to the body by the hinge 8.
The parts 1 and 2 are both of somewhat box like form, the back of the part l being closed by a plate 4 retained in position by screws 5.
The body 1 is provided in its face with a recess 6 for receiving a needle package 7, while the part 2' is provided withaloose plate 8 behind which springs Qare disposed pressing the loose'plate 8 forwardly against the side of the needle package.
The plate 8 is, however, prevented from leaving the part 2 by screws lO passing loosely through holes 1 The face of the plate 8 is slotted longitudinally at two positions as shown at 12.
f Slidably mounted in the part 1 is a pusher 13 having a pair of spaced fingers 14 which extend throughslots in the part 1 and enter the slots 12 in the plate 8.
These fingers 14 engage behind the row of needles 15.y
The pusher is connected by a flexible member 16 to a rotatable drum 17 within which is mounted a flat coiled spring 18 of the clock spring type. The drum l17 is rotatably 6 6 of rigmounted upon a pin 19 attached to the vpart Y 1. The arrangement is such that the spring 18 places a tension on the flexible member 16 and tends to draw the pusher 13 towards the right hand end as seen in Figure 6. The

A needle magazine for needles comprising a box like casing, said casing comprising two parts movably associated together, one halt of said casing having a recess therein, a needle clip containing the needles, means for positioning said clip in said recess, a loose plate associated with the other of said parts, said plate being adapted to engage said needle clip for holding it in said recess, an ejecting plunger for delivering the needles from the magazine one by one, means for moving the needles to the delivery point, and means for guiding the needles as they move to the delivery point.
